Tuesday 8pm: Arsenal v Chelsea
TV: Sky Sport Main Event/Premier League

It’s 15 years since a team went four games without a win while top of the Premier League. It was Arsenal then and it’s Arsenal now.

As depressing as that circle is for Gooners, Chelsea would swap places in a heartbeat. They welcomed Frank Lampard back as a club legend but his heroics were on the pitch, not in the dugout.

The Blues have lost all five games since he took charge, last suffering a longer streak of defeats almost 30 years ago.

The season is nearly over and Chelsea have won one game against a team currently in the top half of the table. One! With that record and Lamps lighting their way, they’ve got no chance.

Right?

Match odds: Arsenal

It’s so hard to know how Arsenal will perform here. They must know their title dream is over for the season and – assuming Manchester City win at Fulham on Sunday – they will be second in the table when this kicks-off. That’s a huge psychological blow.

But unlike Chelsea, they know how to score goals. That’s rather important, or so people who’ve played the game tell me

The Blues are so out of form that a home win is your only choice.

Both Teams to Score: Yes

But the visitors have potential to get on the score sheet. In their last six matches in all competitions, Chelsea have had chances valued at 8.5 expected goals and have scored just once.
Arsenal will allow them some opportunities too. Only Southampton have kept fewer clean sheets on home turf this season and the Gunners’ fine form in front of goal explains why they top the ‘Both Teams to Score’ table for home games.

Chelsea can end their goal drought here, even in defeat, so choose ‘yes’ when it comes to BTTS.

Team To Have 5 Or More Shots On Target: Arsenal

A big part of why Arsenal will win is that they will keep Kepa Arrizabalaga very busy. No team – not even City – has had more games in which they had at least five shots on target than Mikel Arteta’s side.

The only times they’ve failed to hit that mark at home occurred against City and Newcastle. Chelsea have a decent defensive record but having allowed five attempts on target in half of their away games, they should here too.

Anytime Assist: Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka is second in the Premier League assist chart for 2022/23, five behind Kevin De Bruyne. However, the Arsenal man is only one behind the Belgian for setting up goals at home, with much of Saka’s best work having occurred at the Emirates.

One exception to that was when he set up the only goal of the game from a corner when these sides clashed at Stamford Bridge in November. With Chelsea into double figures for set play goals conceded this term, Saka should be able to get another assist for his collection.

Corners Over/Under 9.5: Under

Ahead of Arsenal’s previous home game, I wrote that there wouldn’t be many corners as they’d be comfortably ahead. Southampton had other ideas, but there were still only nine corners anyway.

It continued a recent theme at the Emirates, with only one of the last six games there seeing more than nine corners. While more of Chelsea’s recent games on the road hit double figures, their games at Liverpool and Tottenham saw 10 and eight respectively.

There shouldn’t be that many corners, in short, so select under 9.5 for this one.

Cards Over/Under 3.5: Over

Arsenal have seen more opponents booked than any other team this season. That’s the real quiz, Pep, and you know it.

With that and Chelsea’s matches averaging four cards apiece, can we expect the ref to be kept busy here? There were seven yellows in the reverse fixture for starters.

Referee Robert Jones has done five Premier League games featuring Arsenal or Chelsea this season and has shown an average of four cards in them (and never fewer than three). With his fondness for bookings, we should be safe for over 3.5 cards.
