Arsenal v Newcastle, Wedneday, 19:45
TV: Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League

We’ve had some classic Arsenal v Newcastle clashes over the years and this one looks like it might also make the list. Eddie Howe has done a fantastic job at Newcastle this season. They’ve only lost one of their 17 league games under the former Bournemouth manager and he has them playing some lovely football. They’ve been great on their league travels too but Arsenal have won all seven of their home Premier League games thus far.

How will this one go, here’s Thommo’s verdict…

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Both Teams to Score

The Gunners have kept four clean sheets over their last seven games but we have to take into account that they were against sides that aren’t scoring too many goals of late; Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Chelsea and when we look at their home form we see that actually, at the Emirates they’ve only managed to keep one clean sheet in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle have only been kept scoreless in two of their last 10 Premier League clashes and on the road have found the back of the net in six of their last seven and indeed have scored at least two goals in four of their last five. Howe’s side have only kept two clean sheets over those seven games and with Arsenal scoring at least two goals in all seven of their home league games this season we have to back a Both Teams to Score bet here.

Arsenal to Win

It’s the statistic of scoring at least two goals per home Premier League game that’s pushing me towards Arsenal here. Make no mistake, this is going to be a tough test for Mikel Arteta’s side but they’ve shown in recent home wins against Spurs and Liverpool that they’ve found that determination and grit that’s been missing for quite a few seasons at the Emirates and are now able to wear opposing defences down.

Momentum is such a powerful force in football and now that the Gunners are seven points clear of City they’re going to want to push on even more and extend that lead to 10 points. Newcastle will make it a tough night but I think this Arsenal side, playing full of confidence, have it in them to take the three points.

Kieran Tierney, Arsenal

Gabriel Martinelli to Score Anytime

Gabriel Jesus is going to be a big miss for the Gunners until he returns from his injury but he’s only scored five goals in the Premier League so far. What he’s been so good at for Arsenal is linking up other players to create chances and pulling defenders away to make space too. This is where the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli really excel, coming in off the wings into that space.

Eddie Nketiah is now in the Jesus role and while he doesn’t have the same goal-scoring threat, he’s equally as good at bringing others into play. I’ve been really impressed by Martinelli this season, in previous campaigns he showed glimpses of what he can do but he’s been consistent this season. He’s playing with belief and I think he’ll get his name on the scoresheet here.
