The Irish FAI Cup quarter-finals kick-off a bumper weekend of action on the Emerald Isle, and that also includes a tasty pair of games in the SSE Airtricity League. Amazingly, despite the fact we are down to the last eight in Ireland’s top cup competition, there is only one all-Premier Division tie on Friday night and no less than three underdogs are looking for a top-tier scalp on the night.
So, who better to turn to for all your picks than our Irish football expert, Mr Alan Cawley. Three of Friday’s four last eight matches kick-off at 7.45pm, and there’s no doubting the meeting of Bohemians and Maynooth University Town FC is the tie of the round. Leinster Senior League outfit Maynooth stunned First Division side Cobh Ramblers in the previous round, but if they were to repeat the trick against Bohs, it would be an infinitely bigger shock!
Also on the chopping block on Friday evening is a scrap between St Patrick’s Athletic and Wexford Youths, who operate in the division below the home team. The night also sees Waterford take a break from their relegation battle to travel to Belfield to take on UCD.
Meanwhile, the night’s later kick-off at 8pm, sees Finn Harps and Dundalk set to throw down at Finn Park. With a fascinating night of cup action in store, Alan was even kind enough to pic out a 6/1 acca for us!
Elsewhere, there is an utterly massive game with Premier Division ramifications down for decision on Saturday night as Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers clash at The Showgrounds at 7.45pm. Third-placed Sligo could put themselves right back in the title hunt with a victory over the league leaders and Cawley is expecting an explosive affair on the night.
Finally, we have a rare Premier Division game on Monday night as Bohemians welcome Derry City to Dalymount Park, as the hosts make up for a fixture that they missed due to their extended run in Europe this season.
If one leg of your 4+ fold Acca lets you down, you get up to £/€10 back as a free bet. Customers can qualify for 1 Acca Insurance per day up to £/€10. The free bets will be credited by 12pm the following day.
