Liverpool seem to be in their first bit of a blip for a couple of years with no wins in their last four league games. They’ve scored only one goal in that time as well, recording draws with Newcastle and West Brom, so I wouldn’t be too eager to be backing them, especially at the short price they are.
Thursday 8pm: Liverpool v Burnley
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Burnley were the only team to leave Anfield last season with a point and you can get Burnley (+2) on the handicap, a two goal head start, which is at odds against at the moment. I wouldn’t put anyone off backing that.
They don’t tend to get beaten by a couple of goals too often, they’ve already covered the +2 handicap against the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United a couple weeks ago. We know how resolute they are defensively. That, coupled with Liverpool’s surprising lack of goals in the last couple of games, could be a good angle to have a go at.
Under 2.5 Goals
My pick at a bit of a bigger price though, looking along the same lines is Under 2.5 Goals in the game. It has clicked in seven of Burnley’s last eight league games and in Liverpool’s last four league games. Liverpool’s forwards don’t seem to be as clinical as they have been over the last couple of years. I think they’re really missing Diogo Jota who seemed to link up the play and take his chances as well before his injury.
Mo Salah who had been in great form has quietened up recently and has no goals in his last four league games and Liverpool just haven’t been creating as many big chances as we’re used to seeing them create. I think it’s a good time to play Liverpool, I think they could get something from this game but the bet for me is Under 2.5 Goals.
