The Bundesliga, the FA Cup and La Liga are the focus of action for our Friday night treble. We’ve been looking for value in the Borussia Monchengladbach v Bayern Munich match, Wolves’s tie against Crystal Palace and Celta Vigo’s meeting with Villarreal over in Spain.
Monchengladbach have beaten Bayern in three out of their last five visits to Borussia Park but the market is firmly sticking with Bayern here. While ‘Gladbach have been great value in this season’s Champions League, they’ve not been at their best in the Bundesliga thanks to it. They’ve won just two of their seven home league games this campaign, drawing four and losing one. Bayern, over their away league matches, have won five, drawn one and lost one.
‘Gladbach have been averaging 1.43 home league goals this season while Bayern have been getting 2.29 goals per game on the road. It can be tough enough to find value in a Bayern match as their swashbuckling style usually sees plenty of goals. We had a look at goalscorers here but Bayern’s main top scorers, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller, only have eight goals between them across 38 matches. ‘Gladbach have scored in all 23 of their last home league matches and Bayern are conceding 1.57 goals in their away matches this season. Bayern should come out on top here and there’s a good price for them to take all three points and for Both Teams to Score.
Neither side come into this FA Cup clash in the best of shape. Wolves have won just one of their last five matches in all competitions and Palace share that record. In fact, both have won one, drawn two and lost two over their five most recent matches.
Wolves’ home form is better though – they’ve won two of their last five, drawing two and losing one, while Palace have lost three, won one and drawn one. Wolves have kept Palace scoreless over both of their most recent visits to Molineaux and Roy Hodgson’s side have failed to score in three of their last five on their travels. BTTS: No is an option but we’re getting a better price on the home side to win so that’s what we’re going with.
Celta Vigo have won four out of their last five home league matches and their odds look decent at first glance. Why so high then? They’ll be without their top scorers Iago Aspas and Nolito and Villarreal have won this fixture in three out of four recent visits. However, Villarreal’s away record has seen them win just two of their eight away league matches this season, drawing four and losing two.
The away side tend to make a strong start in their away games though. The average time of their first goal on the road is just seven minutes. They’ve also scored 50 per cent of their goals in the first half of matches. Add to this the fact that they’ve scored at least one first-half goal in three out of their last four visits to Celta Vigo and the odds are presenting some nice value here.
