Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson believes that the apprentice Dean Smith can get his Villains side back on track as they make the trip south to take on David Moyes’ men. West Ham welcome Aston Villa to the London Stadium on Monday and Thommo has served up his best bets for the game to the great folks at PPTV.
20:00 West Ham v Aston Villa
This is one of those tight games the Premier League throws up sometimes. I must admit, I thought West Ham missed Michail Antonio against Sheffield United. But, they did get a fantastic goal from Sébastien Haller to secure the win at Bramall Lane.
West Ham have grabbed two 1-0 wins on-the-trot now and knowing David Moyes like I do, he’ll have been happy with the pair of clean sheets they kept – even more than the two goals that they scored! Moyes has done exceptionally well with The Hammers since he returned to them.
Antonio is a big player for them though, and whether he is fit or not plays on my mind on how I predict the outcome of Monday night’s fixture. If he’s fit and makes it for Monday, I would be absolutely banging on about West Ham’s chances. But, if he’s not, then that’s a different story.
Monday 20:00 – West Ham v Aston Villa
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Some of the scorelines we’ve seen in Aston Villa games have been ever-so strange. They’ve lost at home to Southampton 4-3 and then went to Arsenal and won 3-0! Last week they were beaten at home by Brighton 2-1. They are such a weird team!
Looking at them, the results say to me that they seem a bit more comfortable playing away from home. In away games, they can soak up the pressure and then hit teams on the counter-attack. They will be hoping to do that to West Ham on Monday.
Thommo’s tips:I’m going to go with Aston Villa to win this one 2-1. I just feel they are better suited to being on the road and they can advantage of that at the London Stadium.
Ollie Watkins is on fire up front for Aston Villa and I reckon he can end that clean sheet run the Hammers are on this Monday. Back Watkins to score anytime. Sorry David!
