New season, same old problems. That’s certainly the case for West Brom and Sheffield United who meet here in the second tier following both sides’ relegation from the Premier League last season.

The Blades always struggled to score goals in the top flight and when their defence deserted them they were done for by about November last season. West Brom shipped too many goals and even the might and nous of Big Sam Allardyce couldn’t keep the Baggies from boinging straight back into the second tier.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

So, here we are in 2021/22 and what’s changed? Well, we’ve got two new sets of management teams and there’s no more regular batterings from the European Super League sides, but other than having to try and find a TV channel called Quest for highlights, not much for these fanbases really.

United are still struggling to score and West Brom’s defence is about as watertight as a sieve. New Season, same old problems? More like same s**t, different league. Here’s your three best bets for Wednesday’s televised Championship clash.

Wednesday 8pm: West Brom v Sheffield United
Sky Sports Football

West Brom to Win

Sheffield United are yet to score, let alone win, in The Championship this season. They’ve lost to Birmingham City 1-0 and drawn 0-0 with Swansea in their two games so far. They did manage to net once against the might of League Two’s Carlisle in the EFL Cup which is the only time they’ve tasted victory this term.

West Brom, on the other hand, have picked up a credible 2-2 draw at Bournemouth and then beat Luton 3-2 at the weekend after going 3-0 up. They’ve scored five and conceded four already in just two games. But, crucially, they look to be in a far better place than the blunt Blades.

A broken defence can be fixed and I expect Valerien Ismael to get that sorted sooner rather than later. There looks to be no better team to face if you’re looking for a clean sheet than Sheffield United. West Brom to Win is the only way to go here.

Callum Robinson to Score Anytime

West Brom have scored plenty but, by and large, they’ve shared them about a bit so far this season. They’ve had four goal scorers and even the surprise star of Euro 2020, own goal, popped up in the right place at the right time to get off the mark this term. What a player.

However, one man who has stood out is Callum Robinson who has two to his name already. With goals coming from all over the place for The Baggies, Callum Robinson to Score Anytime might be your safest bet if you’re looking for a goal-scorer punt.

West Brom to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0

As alluded to earlier, I think this might be the game where West Brom record their first clean sheet of the season. United really are desperate in front of goal, but the flip side to that is West Brom’s fairly poor defence.

The Baggies will surely be really targeting this one as a shutout and while Sheffield United generally keep it pretty tight, they won’t be able to keep the rampant home side at bay. Taking a bit of a chance that Ismael’s side can tighten up, it might be worth trying West Brom to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0.
