Phil Thompson: Harry Kane has to move NOW… he deserves better than Spurs

Paddy's football ambassador Phil Thompson is not holding back over Harry Kane's future.

Harry Kane has to leave Tottenham this summer. That’s the message from Liverpool legend turned Paddy Power pundit Phil Thompson.

Kane has been heavily linked with a move to German giants Bayern Munich in this transfer window as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

He’s wanted to leave for a while now but Spurs have, so far, stood form over their talisman’s future.

But with the clock ticking on a potential free transfer, Thommo’s told Paddy Power News that Kane has to leave north London now as he simply deserves better than what Spurs can offer a player of his class at the moment.

Daniel Levy will be wanting to get a big wedge of cash for Harry Kane. I look at the Mason Mount transfer to Manchester United, he had just one year left on his contract.

I was thinking, ‘Mason Mount, you’d probably get a maximum of £20m for him’. He sold for £60m!

Kane’s only got one year to go, he can run that down but it wouldn’t be very nice if that’s what has to happen at Spurs and we’ve got that going on for nine months of the season.

It’s going to be a will he, won’t he saga that’ll drag on and on. If it’s going to be done, get it done

Kane has been fantastic for Spurs but he deserves better

Harry Kane, Spurs, January 2023

That sounds harsh to Spurs fans but even they will look at it and think, ‘Harry Kane’s been wonderful for us, he deserves a little bit better with a good chance of winning trophies.’

It’s worth remembering that it looks like he’s going to Bayern so he’s leaving the Premier League and he’s not going to damage Spurs in this country.

Bayern Munich is a wonderful football club and they needed a bit of luck on the last day to win the Bundeliga title last season, but it’s not normally like that and maybe they need to rejig it.

Sadio Mane, Bayern Munich

If Kane does come in I think we might see Sadio Mane exit Bayern.

Alan Shearer will be rubbing his hands with glee at the thought of Kane leaving the Premier League and his goal-scoring record being safe!

But I always believe that timing is everything in everyone’s lives and the timing is probably right for Kane to leave Spurs.
