I’d like to see the handicap pushed up to the 24 mark for this one. I think Italy could make it a little tough for the visitors.

Scotland are boosted by the return of Matt Fagerson, who has one Man of the Match award to his name so far in this year’s tournament. Hamish Watson is back too after missing the home defeat to France.

That’s a significant boost to their back row, but they are without Duhan van der Merwe who is suspended for three weeks after being sent off for Worcester – he’d have caused carnage against this Italian defence.

Jamie Ritchie and Rory Sutherland are still out, and they’ve picked up injuries throughout the Six Nations so I wouldn’t be sure morale is particularly high there.

The Italians are an emotional side and it can work against them, but on this occasion as they’re presenting their nine Test centurions with a special cap before the game and for the first time they are competing with Scotland for the Massimo Cuttitta Cup.

He’s a former Italian prop and Scotland scrum coach, and there could be a few tears in Rome on Saturday after he lost his life to COVID-19.

In terms of a tryscorer, it’s about time Stuart Hogg got on the board. Since 2012 he’s got at least one in the Six Nations – so he’s overdue!
