COYBIG: Dubliner nets €1.5m on Paddy Power Games during Ireland match

Everyone was a winner last night it seems.

A Dublin punter has thanked Mick McCarthy and the Boys in Green for helping him net €1.5m when he signed up to Paddy Power Games during the first half of Ireland’s friendly against Bulgaria last night.

The online customer won the eyewatering sum after he staked €4 on a spin, landing €1,555,326.42 on our ‘Lucky Halloween’ slots game.

The individual, a married dad of two who has asked not to be identified, explained how he returned home from his shift and settled down to watch the soccer last night.

“The Ireland v Bulgaria football game was on and the first half was dire. I was watching it on my phone so I went on to Paddy Power Games and thought I’d give it a go,” he told Paddy Power.

But at 9.22pm, everything changed. And by the final whistle, he was a millionaire.

Not only had he won €1.5 million, but two minutes later Kevin Long delivered a header to break the impasse and put Ireland 2-1 ahead, followed swiftly by James Collins who made it 3-1 on his international debut.

The lucky punter, who has just begun working at a supermarket retail chain in recent weeks, took a picture of the screen on his mobile phone after he won and sent it to his brother – as he initially feared he had misread the decimal point.

“I know it’s probably the standard response, but I literally couldn’t believe my eyes. I sent a screenshot to my brother and asked, is that €1.5 million or €1.5 thousand? He replied, that’s 1.5 million bro!” he told Paddy Power.

Asked if he felt grateful to McCarthy and the Ireland squad for his big win, he joked: “Yes, absolutely! Only for them being so absolutely sh*t, I wouldn’t have won!”

A spokesperson for Paddy Power added: “While the rest of us were on our feet cheering for Ireland, this customer must have been stuck to his sofa with shock. Did his good rub of the green rub off on the Boys in Green? All we know is there was plenty of green going around last night.”

Players can spin from as little as 0.10c on the slot game Lucky Halloween, a game packed with multiple bonus rounds, a cash booster jackpot, a daily jackpot that must drop before 11pm every day and a monster jackpot – which stood at €1.5m as of yesterday.

If a player lands 3 jackpot symbols on any spin, the player enters into the jackpot feature. The 3 pots light up in the game panel and it highlights which jackpot has been won – either the Cash Booster, The Daily Jackpot or the Monster Jackpot.

In this instance, the Monster Jackpot highlighted and the player landed €1.5m.
