17:40 Classy Clarets

Preference is for CLASSY CLARETS, who found plenty of improvement with his keeping-on third at Pontefract two weeks ago and sets a fair standard on that form. Second choice is Defying Orders, who is bred for speed and ran well for a long way in testing conditions at Nottingham on her debut. Jungle Mate looks the part on paper and needs a close look for an in-form yard, while another interesting newcomer is George Boughey’s Muqtahem.

18:15 Mews House (NAP)

This can go to multiple 5f winner MEWS HOUSE (nap), who had a near-miss at Catterick on Monday and should be hard to catch off the same mark on this drop back in trip/grade. Aconcagua Mountain ended last year with two clearcut wins at Wolverhampton and could be the main danger if he can pick up where he left off. Dual C&D winner Red Allure looks interesting back at this track, while the in-form 6yo Spanish Angel also enters the reckoning.

18:50 Arkenstaar

Top of the list is the Michael Dods-trained ARKENSTAAR, who finished well for a clear second in a handicap here 12 days ago and is open to more progress on his step up to this trip. Triple AW winner Cariad could pose a big threat if she can transfer her progress back to turf and she’s feared most ahead of the handicap newcomers Blue Antares and Keeponbelieving.

19:25 Beattie Is Back

All six runners can have a case argued but the pair to appeal most are Vince Lombardi and BEATTIE IS BACK. The former needs to return to his best but there have been excuses since his stylish Carlisle win last summer and he still appeals as being ahead of his mark. Beattie Is Back ran well over an inadequate trip on last month’s return though and he can prove more potent back at 6f.

19:55 Faylaq

Two Brothers followed his emphatic win at Beverley with a good second at Chester last week and he’s strongly respected. Wandering Rocks wasn’t beaten far at Kempton on his seasonal return and he still has potential, while another lightly raced 4yo Good Show also enters the reckoning. However, the vote goes to FAYLAQ, who has caught the eye with his placed efforts here in both his runs this season and represents a yard that has won this race three times in the last six years.

20:26 Macho Pride

An open race in which the vote goes to MACHO PRIDE, who is very well handicapped on his old turf form and showed clear signs of a revival when runner-up at Newcastle two weeks ago. Banner Road takes a big drop back in trip after her second at Musselburgh but this unexposed filly has plenty of 6f winners in her pedigree and she’s feared most. Jkr Cobbler and Sam’s Call have claims if they can transfer their AW form back to turf, while another to consider is Basholo.

21:00 Willing To Please

Perfect Soldier and Our Dickie filled the first two places in a 1m1f handicap at Musselburgh on Monday and they’re respected, along with Chinese Spirit who didn’t enjoy much luck before finishing a close fifth in that race. However, the vote goes to WILLING TO PLEASE, who is well treated on her Carlisle win last summer and was a creditable third behind a major improver at Pontefract two weeks ago.
