Scene One sets a fair standard of hurdling form if judged on his first two runs but he looked out of sorts on his two appearances in December and ROCCO ROYALE has the potential to improve past him anyway. Jonjo O’Neill’s 5yo is sure to have entered a few notebooks after his running-on third at Ludlow six weeks ago and gets the nod.
14:30 – Ballingers Corner
Not much has gone to plan for BALLINGERS CORNER since her winning hurdle debut in 2020, and she was ultimately well beaten when favourite for last month’s stable/chase debut at Ludlow. However, she jumped several of the fences very well there and today’s drop back in trip looks the right move, so it might pay to give her another chance in this easier race. Hector Jaguen is earmarked as the main danger.
15:00 – Somespring Special (NAP)
Yesnosorry stuck to her task very well when second at Plumpton a fortnight ago but this looks good for handicap debutante SOMESPRING SPECIAL (NAP), who comes here after two very promising 2m5f runs at Wincanton.
15:30 – Monjules
There is no strong temptation to oppose progressive 5yo MONJULES, who has done very well for his new stable this season and is attempting to complete a C&D hat-trick. Hatos raced with zest for a long way in first-time blinkers last month and looks interesting on this drop back from 3m. Promising novice Red Windsor makes his handicap debut today and can also feature.

16:00 – Just Loose Change
Bang-in-form mare Flintara is an obvious one for the shortlist but she looked particularly well suited by the emphasis on stamina when upped to 3m2f on soft going here last month and might be worth opposing over today’s shorter trip on drying ground. The vote goes to JUST LOOSE CHANGE, who won in good style on his handicap debut last October and has performed well on both starts this year. San Pedro De Senam is next on the list.
16:30 – William Philo
Wind Tor suggested he might be ready to capitalise upon some significant help from the handicapper when placed at Exeter recently but preference is for WILLIAM PHILO, who ran well in a big field at Chepstow 12 days ago and remains well treated on earlier hurdle form. Class-dropper Mister Murchan is a more speculative option to consider.
17:00 – Dotties Star
Winning pointer Taita Hills looks interesting on his first start for Gary Moore, while the same trainer’s six-figure purchase All Authorized will be feared if strong in the betting before today’s debut outing. However, the suggestion is DOTTIES STAR, who made a pleasing debut at Huntingdon in the autumn and certainly wasn’t disgraced in a Cheltenham Listed race on his second appearance.
