Baaeed bids to follow in Frankel’s hooves by successfully stepping up in trip in the Juddmonte International – but a couple of Paddy’s pundits are willing to take him on!
The world’s best horse over a mile boasts a perfect record of nine wins from nine but Wednesday’s 15:35 at York is, arguably, the stiffest test of his career to date as he meets last year’s winner and 10-furlong specialist Mishriff.

Juddmonte International tips
Matt Chapman: I’m just hoping BAAEED is even better at 10f than he is over 1m and he’s pretty good over that distance as the best racehorse on the planet! His pedigree has always suggested he will be better over further, and anyone who watches his debut win will be surprised that he was kept over a mile after that success. I can’t wait to see what he can do over this trip, and I am expecting fireworks. I hope I’m not disappointed as we all know his fractions oozed speed at Goodwood! Best of luck to William Haggas and Jim Crowley.
Rory Delargy: It’s not certain that Baaeed will stay 1m 2f, and these are better horses than he’s been beating over a mile. MISHRIFF won this impressively last year, and while his slow starting of late is a worry, he can give the supposed ‘good thing’ a massive fright if back to his best.
Mick Fitzgerald: The imperious Baaeed tries 1m 2f for the first time and that might just give last year’s impressive winner MISHRIFF a big chance over his best trip. I’m willing to take a chance at the prices.
Timeform: BAAEED has been all conquering over 1m and has a pedigree which suggests he should prove at least as effective over this trip so he’s strongly fancied to make it a perfect 10-10. Mishriff, so impressive in this 12 months ago, and Native Trail are very closely matched on Eclipse form and can fight it out for the forecast spot.
Ruby Walsh: BAAEED will win and is better than the opposition. Mishriff has dwelt in the stalls on his last three starts and I wonder if he’s getting a little bit ‘will I won’t I’ as a five-year-old colt. He’s changed his habits and I often don’t like that.
Jason Weaver: Native Trail may well take them along on the front end and set BAAEED a sterner test of stamina than he may like on his debut at 1m 2f. A reverse forecast could be the value play.
