The Group 1 Juddmonte International (3:35pm) is the highlight on Wednesday, with the best horse in the world on official ratings, the unbeaten Baaeed, will be stepping up to 10f for the first time.

We’ve also got the Group 2 Great Voltigeur Stakes at 3pm, with Charlie Appleby’s Secret State looking to continue his unbeaten run but for all the cheeky each-way bets and dark horses just scroll down to our pundits’ picks below.

As long as stall one is not a massive disadvantage, there is no doubt that MAKANAH has strong each-way claims for Julie Camacho and Paul Hanagan. We’ll just have to take the draw on trust, but a mark of 101 is workable for my selection. Dropping back to 5f will be ideal after just fading late on in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood last time. He still ran a cracker then. Worth a few quid each- way.

Mick Fitzgerald

The 5f trip on the Knavesmire is quick, but Bond Chairman has been running really well in competitive races over Ascot’s stiffer 5f this season.

Jason Weaver

The excellent Rossa Ryan takes over at the steering wheel and hopefully, he can get Atalis Bay into a rhythm early as there is no doubt he has untapped ability.

Rory Delargy

Atalis Bay had absolutely no luck in running at Goodwood  and has fallen 6lb below the mark he ran off before that at this track. The trainer had a winner on Monday night too.

Timeform

The 2019 winner DAKOTA GOLD can notch up a record-breaking seventh success on the Knavesmire. He held off Makanah, who has good claims, for his latest victory here in May. Last year’s victor Copper Knight is also bidding for win number 7 at York.

Matt Chapman

It’s impossible to know what he achieved first time out at Newmarket, but LOCAL DYNASTY put up a very good effort to win easily having got loose before the race. The son of Dubawi is clearly talented and hails from the strong Charlie Appleby stable with William Buick on top. Connections have a good line on Mill Stream via Noble Style.

Mick Fitzgerald

This looks a great opportunity for Local Dynasty to add to his comfortable debut success at Newmarket last time for trainer Charlie Appleby.

Jason Weaver

Richard Hannon’s HECTIC was always holding on in the closing stages when winning on his racecourse debut at Newbury 32 days ago. The step up in distance to 7f is going to suit him perfectly.

Rory Delargy

My idea of the winner is Andrew Balding’s Chaldean, who impressed with his demeanour when winning at Newbury last time. This race has been very tough for favourite backers historically.

Timeform

LOCAL DYNASTY won on debut in the style of a potentially smart colt in a maiden at Newmarket 12 days ago, overcoming greenness to score with plenty in hand, and shades the vote in a race full of potential.

Matt Chapman

It’s really frustrating there are not eight runners in here! Hard to oppose SECRET STATE with trainer Charlie Appleby saddling the likely top two in the market and sticking William Buick on my selection. Secret State was suggested to be a St Leger hope after his Goodwood win and seems to be improving with every race.

Mick Fitzgerald

AIKHAL disappointed at Royal Ascot but his back form is strong.  We may not have yet seen the best of him yet.

Jason Weaver

Aikhal took a huge step forward from Royal Ascot when winning very easily over 1m 2f at the Curragh last time. He can serve it up to the Godolphin runners.

Rory Delargy

Deauville Legend would have been a more confident choice with a guaranteed gallop to run at. He has form to his name at least as strong as Secret State, and deserves to be closer to that one in price.

Timeform

SECRET STATE can emulate the yard’s recent Gordon Stakes winner New London and take the step up from top handicap company to Group level in his stride.

Matt Chapman

Not a betting race this for me – I’m just hoping BAAEED is even better at 10f than he is over 1m and he’s pretty good over that distance as the best racehorse on the planet! His pedigree has always suggested he will be better over further.

Mick Fitzgerald

The imperious Baaeed tries 1m 2f for the first time and that might just give last year’s impressive winner Mishriff a big chance over his best trip. I’m willing to take a chance at the prices.

Jason Weaver

Native Trail may well take them along on the front end and set BAAEED a sterner test of stamina than he may like on his debut at 1m 2f. A reverse forecast could be the value play.

Rory Delargy

It’s not certain that Baaeed will stay 1m 2f, and these are better horses than he’s been beating over a mile. Mishriff won this impressively last year, and while his slow starting of late is a worry, he can give the supposed ‘good thing’ a massive fright if back to his best.

Timeform

BAAEED has been all conquering over 1m and has a pedigree which suggests he should prove at least as effective over this trip so he’s strongly fancied to make it a perfect 10-10. Baaed and Native Trail can fight it out foe the forecast spot.

Matt Chapman

ROCK EAGLE has runs to his name that suggest an eachway chance here now rated 98. They include a fifth in the Cesarewitch off 100 and his form this season suggests he’s capable of still running to that kind of level. I’ll back him each-way for Ralph Beckett and Rob Hornby.

Mick Fitzgerald

Frankenstella is a course and distance winner and she has run well at the track a few times. She won a handicap here a couple of years ago and stays this 2m trip really well. Has to have a strong chance at a decent price.

Jason Weaver

Haveyoumissedme has a very formidable change of gear which he can use here to good effect. Expect him to come late and fast.

Rory Delargy

I’ve backed Frankenstella ante-post for this, but her price has dried up like the ground, and I’m looking for a saver. I’ll take a flyer about Red Flyer staying the extra two furlongs after his excellent effort at the July meeting.

Timeform

SOAPY STEVENS did really well to finish fourth at Goodwood given how free he ran. A brace of wins prior to that mark him down as a four-year-old on the up. Zoffee failed to stay last time and is a big threat back down in distance.
