Cappananty Con is more effective and much more prolific on the AW, but he was second over C&D in September and, on paper, this is the easiest turf race he has ever contested. Hot Hot Hot and Thegreyvtrain also have possibilities.

Mick Channon’s colt BETWEENTHESTICKS has shown more than enough to suggest he can win a race of this nature, indeed he might have been a shade unlucky not to do so at Ripon a fortnight ago. Elongate is the most appealing newcomer, but Continuation has the right pedigree for 2yo sprints and is another to keep an eye on.
14:00 Boom The Groom
Doc Sportello ought to be able to cope with the 4lb penalty he shoulders for last week’s C&D win, but it might be worth chancing his even older stablemate BOOM THE GROOM, who hinted at a possible return to form at Bath recently and competes off another career-low mark here. Jackmeister Rudi was second over C&D 11 days ago and still has some potential, but he’s not a straightforward ride.

14:30 Huntsman’s Moon
On The Nose is still unexposed on turf and has good claims, having finished second in a C&D handicap just 11 days ago. However, an interesting alternative is HUNTSMAN’S MOON, who stayed on for fifth over 7f here on last month’s handicap debut and, if his pedigree is a guide, could have untapped potential over today’s longer trip.
15:00 Devorgilla
Last-time-out winner Thunderoad has a good chance if in similar form, but he’s rather inconsistent and preference is for DEVORGILLA, who has fewer miles on the clock and comes here after two good AW runs last month. That said, all four of the 3yos are completely unexposed so a market move for any of them could put a completely different complexion on this race.

Today’s drop back to 1m might prove the key to DELAHOUSSAYE (nap), who gave a good account when third over 1m2f in first-time blinkers last month. Furthermore, he benefits from Saffie Osborne’s useful 3lb claim here. By Pass also responded positively to headgear on her latest outing and is second choice, ahead of Gilbert.

Storm Dancer makes her handicap debut off a basement mark and is a possible improver, but the most likely answer is QUEEN SARABI who gained her breakthrough win over C&D last month and had that form boosted when the runner-up went one better off a 2lb higher mark here a week ago. Red Bravo is next on the list.
