GALAXY GAZER was too green to do herself justice on debut at Beverley in April, but took a big step forward when runner-up at Haydock last month, travelling well but having no extra in the final 100 yards. She is entitled to progress again on just her third start and this slightly shorter trip should play to her strengths, too. She sets the standard and is preferred to likely-looking newcomers Union Joy, River Usk and Aire Valley Apache, for whom the market will reveal more.

17:50 – King Gesture
KING GESTURE made plenty of appeal on paper and showed plenty to work on when finishing second on debut at Nottingham last month, given a patient ride but making good headway to lead entering the final furlong before being caught close home by one who had the benefit of previous experience. There should be plenty more to come from her now and she already sets a good standard here. Lumley looks the main danger having been placed on all three of her starts so far.
18:25 – Copperline
COPPERLINE was a lot shorter in the betting when making his handicap debut at Carlisle last month, offering something to work on but still looking in need of the experience. He left the impression he is capable of winning races from this lowly mark, though, and is sure to be suited by a step up to a mile now. He is bred to be much better than this level and looks the likely winner. Rose’s Girl, who has been placed on her last three runs, and now has cheekpieces added, which may eke out a bit more.
19:00 – Gainsbourg
GAINSBOURG progressed well to win twice last season and shaped encouragingly when third on his comeback run at Pontefract in April. He is probably best not judged on his latest run back on the all-weather at Southwell, as he possibly made his challenge to reel in the leaders too soon. This looks a weaker event and he remains a horse to be interested in from this sort of mark. Sandret is on a lengthy losing run, but ran well on his reappearance last season so must enter calculations from a career-low mark.

VINDOBALA has recorded both of her wins at Newcastle but is equally effective on turf, only narrowly beaten by one who bounced back to form at Musselburgh last month. She only just failed to reel in the winner but is clearly on a good mark, and the more emphasis on stamina she faces here should be in her favour. She looks the pick in a trick affair ahead of Katyusha and Saulire Star, who can also make their presence felt.

20:10 – Hellenista
HELLENISTA confirmed the promise of her recent runs when resuming winning ways over two miles at Ripon last week, again settling better than has often been the case and seeing things out with much more conviction than on her previous try at the trip. The drop back in distance shouldn’t pose a problem now and she looks the one to beat turned out under a penalty. Lucky Draw and Danni California are feared most.
20:40 – Yasmin From York
YASMIN FROM YORK arrives at the top of her game having won two of her last three starts, both at Catterick. She benefited from the step back up to two miles, turning the tables on a couple from the previous week in the process, and she should remain competitive following a 3 lb rise in the weights. Cloudy Rose hasn’t had many tries over the distance, while Calvinist isn’t discounted back in this sphere, so are a couple of others to consider.
