13:45 – City Chief

CITY CHEIF bumped into a couple of useful rivals on his first two starts over hurdles before making the most of a good opportunity at Hereford last time. Admittedly, he was fully entitled to win that day, as odds on 5/1-on would suggest, but it was hard not to be impressed by the manner in which he travelled and jumped, and he may have been let into handicaps lightly. He is also unexposed at the trip, so is taken to prove too strong for Shearer, who opened his account in first-time cheekpieces last time.

14:20 – Grey Skies

GREY SKIES was well beaten in a couple of starts in Ireland, but had won three starts in points upon joining Donald McCain, and has looked a good prospect winning both of his starts at Uttoxeter and Kelso this season. He again impressed with his strength at the finish when defying a penalty on the latest occasion and seems sure to relish the step back up to two and a half miles now. There should be even more to come and he is fully expected to complete a hat-trick. The strong-travelling Thunder Rock should find this an easier task than the EBF Final he contested last time and is feared most.

14:55 – Platinumcard

PLATINUMCARD and Soft Risk are both potential improvers in this handicap but preference is for the former despite him being 5 lb out of the weights. He was held in three starts over hurdles for Keith Dalgliesh last season, but he went on to win four times on the Flat last summer and has since made a most interesting stable switch to Gordon Elliott. There is surely more to come from him in this sphere and he is potentially thrown in on his Flat form now entering handicaps in this sphere. Soft Risk can turn around Newcastle form with Since Day One.

15:30 – Flic Ou Voyou

FLIC OU VOYOU was useful over hurdles and he showed an aptitude for chasing when finishing third to a now smart sort on his debut in this sphere in October before opening his account at Doncaster the following month. He dispelled a below-par effort when runner-up to a progressive sort at Sandown earlier this month which will have set him up perfectly for this, while the return to better ground will also be in his favour. Whoshotthesheriff is feared most on the back of his recent Carlisle victory.

16:05 – Get A Tonic

GET A TONIC won back-to-back races over hurdles earlier this season and her consistency overall is hard to argue with, yet to finish out of the first three in this sphere. She ran a cracker when runner-up to subsequent Mares’ Hurdle winner Marie’s Rock in a listed event at Warwick in February and she probably should have won at Doncaster last time when meeting some trouble at the third-last and then veering off a straight line on the run-in. A mark of 130 looks very fair on the pick of her efforts and she can make her first start in a handicap a winning one. Glimpse of Gala is proving progressive and looks the main threat.

16:40 – Dubai Days

DUBAI DAYS got back on track when winning at Kelso last time and can follow up with Bruce Lynn taking off 5 lb again. He has the advantage of race fitness on his side over Lermoos Legend, who is not dismissed lightly despite having been off the track for eight months. When last seen Lermoos Legend was making great progress over fences as he racked up a four-timer, while Dino Velvet should be suited by the conditions and can step up on his last two starts.

17:15 – Deluxe Range

Plenty in with chances here, but DELUXE RANGE has edged back down to an attractive mark and may be worth siding with. He looked to be travelling best when turning for home at Warwick last time and he is entitled to strip fitter for that now, while the drop back to three miles should also be in his favour. The unexposed-trio of Stringtoyourbow, Skatman and Your Own Story head the dangers in a wide-open race.
