Raymond Tusk showed smart form on the Flat and he should prove a class apart if taking well to hurdling. The very pick of his efforts came in 2018 and 2019 but he showed enough in the latest season, most notably through his runner-up effort in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot, to suggest that plenty of ability remains intact.
Moonamacaroona failed to complete on her hurdles debut over course and distance last month, but she departed in unfortunate circumstances as she stumbled and unseated her rider at four out. That effort can be easily overlooked and it’s instead worth focusing on what a good impression she created in bumpers, winning events at Warwick and Chepstow. She remains an exciting prospect.
Chilli Filli won this last year and can follow up her success. She also won a listed contest on her final outing of the campaign, showing even better form to win at Perth. That form is the best available and Chilli Filli, who has a good record fresh, looks the one to beat.
Starsky has fared well since joining Dan Skelton and he ran a cracker on his chasing debut at Worcester last month, agonisingly headed on the line after looking in control after the last. Starsky shaped like the best horse at the weights at Worcester and remains on a decent mark after edging up only 2 lb, so he makes plenty of appeal with the application of cheekpieces looking like a good move.
Fresh New Dawn didn’t meet expectations over fences last term but there have been some encouraging signs of late, finishing third at Perth before finding only one too good at the same course last time. It was encouraging that his jumping held up better than has sometimes been the case and he returns from seven weeks off with the yard in flying form. He is better than this grade and could prove a cut above the opposition.
Macho Mover has been rejuvenated since joining Olly Murphy, winning a seller at Newton Abbot before producing an even better effort in defeat when runner-up in a handicap at Stratford last month. He is still well handicapped after edging up only 1 lb in the weights and may still have a bit more to offer for this in-form yard.
