Newmarket 13:50 Stowell
ITV coverage Thursday begins with the Bahrain Trophy, often seen as a St Leger trial, and a Group 3 for 3yo over 1m5f. STOWELL should be very hard to beat here for the Gosdens and Frankie Dettori. My selection made headlines for all the wrong reasons on debut, but since then has landed his maiden and then ran a fine third behind Kemari in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot. He stayed on well that day and might have been a little unlucky.
NEW TO PADDY POWER
Carlisle 14:05 Velocistar
ITV show one race from Carlisle which is this handicap over 6f. Tough race to call. Off bottom weight it might be VELOCISTAR who can run well for Steph Hollinshead and Megan Nicholls. The filly has run good races at Chester, Newmarket and Newbury of late and, on those performances, has every chance of getting a win on the board despite edging up the handicap ratings.
Newmarket 14:25 Ebro River
Now the July Stakes, a Group 2 for juveniles over 6f. This looks wide open. I’ll take a chance each way wth EBRO RIVER, who goes for Hugo Palmer and James Doyle. He landed events in soft ground at Doncaster and Sandown before going to Royal Ascot and finishing fifth behind Berkshire Shadow in the Coventry Stakes. He was in the group away from the winner that day and the form can be marked up I would think.

Newmarket 15:00 Jadwal (each-way)
Now a handicap over 6f. Boomshalaa looked like horse to follow after Royal Ascot but he goes up a furlong here. I’m going to have a few quid each way on JADWAL who has been consistent without winning this season. He was a very fine second at Newmarket two runs ago and then an equally decent fourth at York behind First Folio. Basically he’s knocking at the door for Charlie Hills and David Egan has every chance of getting into the places at least once again with just 8st 5lb on his back.
Newmarket 15:35 Al Aasy
Finally at Newmarket, the Group 2 Princess of Wales’s Stakes over 1m4f. Impossible to really get away from AL AASY who has progressed all season for William Haggas and Jim Crowley. He was probably unlucky not to land the Coronation Cup at Epsom last time and should make amends here with a decent gallop likely.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
