We’re in for a treat this weekend as Aintree stages the first race of the season over the iconic Grand National fences.

The Grand Sefton Chase, a Class 2 handicap over 2m5f, is one of five renewals to be run over the spruce obstacles every campaign and is the feature at the track’s November meeting having been moved forward from its traditional December slot last year.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

Mac Tottie, the winner 12 months ago, will not be back to defend his crown but the runner-up, Senior Citizen, is back for another crack while last season’s Grade 1 Ascot Chase second Two For Gold heads the weights.

The latest Grand Sefton Chase odds are on the Paddy Power website, otherwise all the key details about this year’s renewal can be found below.

Paul Nicholls’ yard is in red-hot form and his sole entrant, Broken Halo, heads our betting market with the seven-year-old looking to make it three wins from five over fences.

Two For Gold has climbed to a career-high mark of 159 thanks to a second place in last season’s Grade 1 Ascot Chase but Kim Bailey’s gelding has failed to finish in two previous attempts over the Grand National fences.

Second-season chaser Lifetime Ambition is also prominent in the betting and was last seen finishing second in the Champion Novice Chase at this year’s Punchestown Festival
