The Breeders’ Cup is one of the biggest dates on the horse racing calendar as some of the world’s best horses compete in the USA for bumper prize pots and Group 1 glory.
Despite the challenges of international travel in the coronavirus era, a healthy crop of Irish and British runners are heading across the pond to try and score on away soil.

The Breeders’ Cup 2021 will take place at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in California on Friday, November 5 and Saturday, November 6, although viewers on either side of the Irish Sea will need to stay up late to watch the races.
Day one sees the best of the two-year-old division take to the track, with five Breeders’ Cup contests from 9.50pm GMT (2.50pm local time) culminating in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at 12.30am GMT (5.30pm local time).

If the opening day isn’t enough then Saturday’s action should do the trick as there are 10 Breeders’ Cup renewals from 7.05pm GMT (12.05pm local time). The quality of the races ramp up through the card, with the Breeders’ Cup Turf and the Breeders’ Cup Classic being the standouts of the whole meeting.
Fresh from placing second in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, Tarnawa will attempt to defend her Breeders’ Cup Turf crown but faces competition from familiar names like Yibir and Teona while American challenger Domestic Spending has been declared a non-runner.
A field of nine are set to go to post in the Breeders’ Cup Classic and an electric clash between last year’s Dirt Mile champ Knicks Go, Belmont Stakes king Essential Quality, Pennsylvania Derby hero Hot Rod Charlie and Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit is expected.
You can watch 13 of the 14 Breeders’ Cup 2021 races live on ITV Racing, although you’ll have to do some channel hopping. ITV4 is the place to be from 9.30pm on Friday to 1am on Saturday. The same channel carries live coverage from 7.30pm on Saturday before switching to ITV from 11.15pm for the Breeders’ Cup Turf and Breeders’ Cup Classic.
