It’s one of the biggest dates on the calendar with mega prize pots up for grabs but when is this year’s Breeders’ Cup? We’ve got the key answer to that question and other useful nuggets of information about the two-day meeting.
The Breeders’ Cup 2021 will take place at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in California, USA between Friday November 5 and Saturday November 6.
The opening day boasts 10 races from 6.55pm GMT (11.55am local time), with five Breeders’ Cup contests culminating in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at 12.30am GMT (5.30pm local time).
It’s all about the second day of the meeting with a monster 12-contest card kicking off from 5.15pm GMT (10.15am local time). There are nine Breeders’ Cup renewals – including the Turf, Turf Sprint, Distaff and more – concluding with the big one, the Classic at 12.40am GMT (5.40pm local time).
ITV Racing will have live coverage of the 14 Breeders’ Cup races. The Breeders’ Cup Turf and Breeders’ Cup Classic will be broadcast on ITV while the others will be shown on ITV4.
Last year’s winner Tarnawa, fresh from her near miss in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp, is the 9/4 favourite in our early betting for the Breeders’ Cup Turf. Saudi Cup king Mishriff and Epsom Derby hero Adayar follow at 5/2 and 9/2 respectively.
The Breeders’ Cup Classic is the richest race of the meeting and Pegasus World Cup champ Knicks Go tops Paddy’s antepost market at 3/1. Belmont Stakes hero Essential Quality, the top ranked three-year-old, is next in the betting at 4/1.
