This very lightly-raced 7-year-old comes into this off the back of putting in a solid performance to win over course and distance last time. The handicapper has only given ASK ME EARLY a 6lb rise for winning that day and that looks to underestimate him, given it was his first run over fences in public (had previously won a P2P). Although there’s a few in here that should have more to offer in time, he looks the one they all have to beat and I’m confident he can continue his winning run.
Based on finishing positions of ninth and eighth this season, it would be very hard to recommend a bet on MILLERS BANK. However, he is taking a significant drop in class here and as a result of being well beaten twice this season he has been dropped 7lbs by the handicapper.
If you go back to last season’s form he would look to have a great chance here when he won a decent novice hurdle at Bangor and followed up under a penalty at Market Rasen by 14 lengths. I think it is worth taking the chance that the drop in class here can help him get back to that kind of form.

This is an interesting 72k allowance race for fillies and mares with the front two in the market looking very weak – one is mostly a turf horse and the other sits far too far off the pace (I would have Violent Point in the match bet over New York Rock Star here as a side bet) for the likely running of this race so LUNE LAKE will get a solo up front and Eric Cancel will get a chance to go coast to coast setting his own soft fractions.
Making it’s second start, this son of Carpe Diem could easily be overlooked in the market with Todd Pletcher and Chad Brown being doubly represented. None of their runners looks overly appealing while MANITOWISH comes here on the back of a very pleasing debut effort; last from the gates, pushed along and forced wide over an inadequate 5.5 furlongs he made eye-catching late headway and is now upped to a mile which should be way more up his street. There’s bound to be more to come and this looks a very winnable race.
JOLIE OLIMPICA is going for back-to-back wins in this race and should be more than good enough to do so. She’s having her first run off a layoff but has won over this course and distance on her two previous runs off a similar break, including beating her market rival Oleksandra in the Monrovia here back in May. She has been (and probably will be again) tried as a miler but a strongly-run race with a horse to carry her in to the straight over this sort of trip looks to suit her just as much – if not more. There’s pace on her inside to likely lead her early on, which should see Mike Smith in a pace-controlling role in second place and it’s very hard to see her being passed after they turn for home.
