Paddy Power Golf Shootout: Meet the players taking on the challenge

This lot will be embarrassing themselves for your enjoyment on Friday.

Paddy’s been busy rifling through his little black book to see which golf pros and celebs he’s got the most dirt on as he looks to build a field to compete in the prestigious Paddy Power Golf Shootout which tees off at 12pm on Friday.

As a result, he’s rounded up 10 big names to come and compete in the epic challenge at the Centurion Club in Hertfordshire. The list includes some of the best players in the game as well as much-loved household names. Piers Morgan’s going to be there as well.

UPDATE: It’s now done and dusted – here’s the best bits from Paddy Power’s Golf Shootout

So, you already know one of the challengers who will be battling it out for the title of the best Paddy Power Golf Shootout player in the world ever, so let’s meet the rest of our contenders.

The Celebs

Piers Morgan: That’s right, daytime TV and social media’s most explosive firebrand will surely bring his controversial, abrasive style of communication to the golf course and it’s a tactic that could work well here. Expect lots of heckling and no shortage of confidence when faced with our tricky challenges.

Harry Kane: He’s the England captain, he’s in the prime of his physical prowess and he’s fresh after a couple of months off work sat around on furlough. A deadeye, a warrior and all-round good egg. Can he do it when Piers has thrown his clubs into the lake, though? I think we’re about to find out.

Jamie Redknapp: The one your mum likes off the telly when the footy’s on. No, not Graeme Souness, the other one. Good looking, suave, eloquent. Redknapp is a former footballer who’s now known for doing challenges on the telly. You can be sure he’s about to face his most daunting one yet.

Peter Crouch: Football’s king of the one-liners, this mighty hightower scored 22 goals for England in a career that spanned two glorious decades. He’s got a lovely big grin, but will he still be smiling after we’ve put him through his paces?

Freddie Flintoff: All-round legend. Cricket hero. King of the boxing ring. Fish and chip van owner. Elvis impersonator. He’s got it all. Fred could be an outside shot for the title after dedicating himself to sport and fitness since retiring as a professional athlete.

The Pros

Tommy Fleetwood: Ok, now we’re into the real talent. It’s the world No.10 ranked golfer, for crying out loud. Runner up in last year’s Open, Fleetwood will bring a touch of class to this questionable event. The early favourite, but can he putt blindfolded?

Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston: Top man known for his beard and a love of meat. Ranked No. 189 in the world, he’ll have to upset the form book to trump Fleetwood. However, we have a suspicion his Happy Gilmore drive could be one to contend with.

Thomas Bjorn: Denmark’s best-ever golfer and a Ryder Cup veteran, Bjorn will bring a wealth of experience which could well prove to be completely useless if he’s paired with Piers in the Fastest Time To Complete A Hole challenge.

Carly Booth: A winner of three Ladies European Tour titles, Booth is a rising star on the scene. This event could do a lot to hamper her progress and do irreparable damage to her reputation. She’s over a foot shorter than Crouchy, so let’s get them to pair up in some challenges.

Paul McGinley: Ryder Cup royalty. What can McGinley bring from captaining the European side in 2014 to this event? Maybe taking a backseat and letting the others take the attention might be the best tactic.
