The Draw
The Netherlands came into the World Cup as many people’s dark horses – if the Dutch can ever really be considered true dark horses – but they have done little in the group stages to live up to such a nametag. Louis Van Gaal’s side were unconvincing in their win over Senegal in their opening game of the tournament and were fortunate to escape with a draw against an excellent Ecuador in their only other real test from the group stages.

The USA, on the other hand, were excellent in the first half of their first game against Wales, while they were full value for their win over Iran and draw against England. This is both the Dutch and the Americans’ first appearance in the round-of-16 since 2014, when the Dutch scored two very late goals to snatch a 2-1 victory over Mexico and the US suffered extra-time heartbreak against Belgium.
Saturday afternoon’s game could be a similarly tight affair, and the Dutch may require extra-time to advance to the last-eight. We’ll take The Draw after 90 minutes.
Cody Gakpo to Score Anytime
PSV’s Cody Gakpo has been one of the few bright spots for the Netherlands at the World Cup so far, scoring in each of their three group games. Gakpo has scored with his head, left foot, and right foot at this World Cup and seems capable of finding the back of the net from any position.

He is one of four players to score three goals at this World Cup and the only player to score in all three games that he has played. He will prove a handful for a US defence that is yet to concede from open play at the World Cup and his rapidly rising stock could continue to rise if Gakpo can bag an Anytime knockout Goal.
Under 4.5 Cards
Neither the USA nor the Netherlands have received an awful lot of yellow cards at the World Cup. The Dutch have received just two bookings in their three games to date, dominating possession and territory, which generally negates the need for fouls worthy of yellow cards.
The USA, on the other hand, have received five yellow cards in their three games to date, with four of those cards coming in their bizarre opening game against Wales.
They received no yellow cards in their game against top seeds and group winners England, giving some indication of how Saturday’s game against a theoretically stronger Dutch outfit will pan out. It’ll be Under 4.5 Cards.
Under 9.5 Corners
The Dutch have only won 13 corners in the competition so far at a rate of just over four per game, while they have only conceded 13 in the same number of games. Only their opening game against Senegal saw ten corners or more.
The Dutch have recorded at least 55% possession in their three games and will likely record a similar figure against the US on Saturday afternoon. The US, on the other hand, have won 17 corners in three games at a rate of just under six per game but can expect to record a much smaller number against the Dutch on Saturday so we’ll round off with Under 9.5 Corners.
