The thing about that cup quarter final is that Liverpool played well really. It was a great advert for football and what Premier League teams can do but a bitter disappointment to lose the game considering how much control Liverpool had for periods of it.
Saying that, United upped their game and really played really well too. It was a proper game of football and the kind of performance and result that should galvanise a team. United showed a lot of character to win it in the end.
That’s something that’s been levelled at this side a lot this season – and we’ve seen in the games since why – but they had to hang in there at times against Liverpool and ride their luck a bit but it was a great effort to get those late goals and they can take heart from that.
It’s just the lack of consistency that hampers them. The Brentford and Chelsea games just seem to sum up United’s season.
While the control Liverpool enjoyed in that cup game sticks with me, and they’ve shown before that they have the ability to embarrass Man United on their day.
LIVERPOOL TO WIN
United might be up for this but Liverpool are going for a league title at the moment too and they need the points. It’ll be a different game to the cup tie and they should’ve learnt from their mistakes in that one and be more clinical.
United have also picked up a few more injuries at the back since that game so three points for Liverpool looks likely to me despite the dramatic cup loss.
Mo Salah to score
He has a great record against United at Old Trafford and is obviously Liverpool’s biggest goal threat so Mo Salah to score is an easy choice.

Alexis Mac Allister to have 1 or more shots on target
He was great against his old side last weekend and scored a cracker against Sheffield United on Thursday night, so he’s in form and will fancy a shot on target.
Bruno Fernandes to have 1 or more shots on target
He scored on Thursday night too and has an eye for goal. One shot on target is not much to ask.
Harry Maguire to commit 1 or more fouls
United have picked up more injuries at the back this week and up against Liverpool’s forward line United’s defence will be under pressure. Harry Maguire might be forced into making a few fouls as he tries to handle them.
