13:30 Ascot – Rhythmic Intent (each-way)

ITV Racing Saturday mixes Lingfield, Haydock and Ascot starting here with a handicap over 1m4f. I’ll take a chance each-way here on the old boy RHYTHMIC INTENT for Stuart Williams and Silvestre De Sousa. The jockey booking might be important and a sign of intent, and the handicap rating is very workable. My selection is on a mark of 81, having been 89 when third last season at Sandown and Yarmouth. Conditions are ideal and he stays well. Obviously at the age of eight he’s not getting any younger, but there was a sign of life at Southwell two runs ago and he’s never won on the all-weather so that’s a positive hint.

13:50 Lingfield – Flash Bardot

ITV start coverage at Lingfield with a handicap over nearly 1m4f. FLASH BARDOT was really impressive in a fillies handicap at Doncaster last month and while up considerably in the weights hails from an inform stable so might just go in again under David Probert. That success was her third in her last four starts and she’s clearly in a rich vein of form.

14:05 Ascot – Strong Impact

Another handicap here but this time over 1m. Topanga is interesting but we should get a run from another Silvestre De Sousa mount here in STRONG IMPACT trained by Roger Varian. The filly has been running over a bit further of late, winning a novice at Epsom before finishing fourth as favourite in a handicap off this mark of 81 at Chelmsford. She weakened that day suggesting this trip will be ideal and she may well be happier being back on turf.

14:25 Lingfield – Danielle

Up in class here for the Listed Oaks Trial for 3yo over nearly 1m4f. Treasure is fascinating, but DANIELLE could be the one here for Kieran Shoemark and John & Thady Gosden. The daughter of Cracksman has improved with every start and scored a confidence-boosting success last time at Wetherby when at short odds. She’s related to strong stayers and might just be very useful.

14:40 Ascot – Pearle Dor (each-way)

Now one of the big betting handicaps of the season in the Victoria Cup over 7f. If Silvestre De Sousa has a bad day then so will I as I’m with him again here via PEARLE D’OR for David O’Meara. The five-year-old is a winner over course and distance and also ran a fine third – off this mark of 90 – when one place behind the re-opposing Popmaster in the Howden Challenge Cup at this track in October. Conditions are ideal for another big run and the gelding should have blown the cobwebs away with a run at Newmarket where he was bumped at the start and never sighted. A few quid each-way.

15:00 Lingfield – Defiance

Another Listed race here in the Derby Trial for 3yo over nearly 1m4f. Nothing in here getting me that excited. DEFIANCE looked a little unlucky when finishing strongly to finish second to Bellum Justum in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom last month, which was a better performance than his tame sixth in the Royal Lodge as a juvenile. The Epsom contest was over 1m2f, and my hope looks sure to appreciate the longer trip here for Roger Varian and James Doyle.

15:15 Haydock – Teddy Blue (each-way)

ITV show one from Haydock and it’s over jumps in the Swinton Handicap Hurdle over nearly 2m. TEDDY BLUE was an unlucky second in this last year off a mark of 132 but might be able to make amends this time. A bad mistake at the last probably cost him victory this time last year, but he can try again off 129 although Caoilin Quinn claimed 5lb that day and only 3lb this afternoon. A fourth at Ascot in February suggested this horse still has plenty to offer for Gary and Josh Moore. An each-way chance for sure.

15:35 Lingfield – Remarquee

Up in class now for the Group 3 Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes over 7f. This race marks the return of REMARQUEE and if anywhere near her best she should beat this lot for Ralph Beckett and James Doyle. The former Fred Darling winner went on to finish second in the Group 1 Coronation at Royal Ascot and runner-up in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket. That form is miles the best on show.

16:10 Lingfield – Madame De Sevigne

A handicap over 7f. Lots of questions to be answered amongst this lot. MADAME DE SEVIGNE was not disgraced on handicap debut at Ascot for Robert Eddery and might go well for Clifford Lee. The selection was a big price on that occasion but ran much better than a 22-1 shot and the drop to 7f looks a sensible move.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
