Never one to be deterred by the odd riot or pitch invasion, Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson is back to take another look at the rearranged Manchester United v Liverpool clash on Thursday night. The game comes in a hectic week for the Red Devils after beating Aston Villa 3-1 on Sunday, losing 2-1 at home to Leicester on Tuesday then hosting Liverpool on Thursday.

The former Liverpool stalwart thinks the loss of Harry Maguire might be a big issue for United but still can’t see his beloved Reds winning. He’s got four bets for you to mull over ahead of Thursday’s big game so let’s take a look.

I feel a bit for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with so many games in such a short space of time. But it’s because you’re successful and that’s what you get with it, so you have to play the games. Nobody could foresee what happened at the last game.

If I know Ole and the way he has his Manchester United head on. It wasn’t hard to tell he’d play a weakened team against Leicester rather than Liverpool because this one is massive.

He knows what this game means for all the fans so I imagine he’ll play a strong side and Liverpool will want to play Manchester United’s best team, but the injury that Harry Maguire got the other day was very severe. That doesn’t look good for him.

I know people will say it’s going to be bad for England, but United fans will be saying, “We’re just thinking about Manchester United, we want him fit.’ He’s such a vital part of their team.

Thursday 8.15pm: Manchester United v Liverpool
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Liverpool had a really good win and a clean sheet against Southampton so the top four hopes are back alive. It seems as though somebody is trying to get Liverpool into that top four. Leicester got beat at home, Spurs getting beat, you’re just thinking, ‘Wow’.

Liverpool have won 30 points against the teams in the top half of the league so that tells you they tend to turn up against the bigger teams. What about Man United? The great comeback kings of this season, it’s been quite astonishing hasn’t it?

They go behind again against Aston Villa and they come back and they get all three points. As we can see at the moment, Liverpool are better away from home, Manchester United are not so good at home but this is a big clash.

United have had a terrific season, I think Ole’s done really well. They’ve only conceded four goals in their last eight games so they’re strengthening a little bit but without Maguire will they be as strong?

THOMMO’S TIPS: I’m going exactly the same as what I tipped last time, this will see Both Teams to Score and I think it will be 2-2 with Bruno Fernandes to Score Anytime and Mo Salah to Score Anytime as well.
