17:45 – Dundalk v Finn Harps: BTTS – No

Oriel Park is the venue for Premier Division action on Friday. The Lilywhites head into this game coming off the back of a 1-1 stalemate against Sligo Rovers in the opening round of fixtures. The home side will look to get back on track with a win, having not won at home in their last four league matches dating back to last season. Finn Harps go into this game following an impressive 1-0 victory against Bohemians and will be high on confidence.

With Dundalk having the fitness edge on the back of their Presidents Cup win against Shamrock Rovers they should have too much for their rivals on Friday evening. Dundalk have a strong defence and despite Finn Harps opening victory, I expect chances to be few and far between for them on Friday.

19:45 – Oxford United v Lincoln City: BTTS – No

Lincoln City make the trip to the Kassam Stadium on Friday for the League One meeting with hosts Oxford United. The hosts will look to return to winning ways after losing 1-0 against Northampton Town in their last match. Lincoln drew 1-1 with high flying Sunderland last time out in what was a welcome point on the back of two defeats. There is not much between the sides and both come into this game struggling for consistency.

I don’t expect much goalmouth action and a key stat is that Oxford from their previous six matches Both Teams To Score would have been a losing bet. The last time the sides played back in September the game finished 2-0 to Lincoln, while in the previous two fixtures between the sides The Imps failed to score in both games. I expect it to be four games in a row between the sides where both teams fail to score.

19:45 – Waterford Utd v Sligo Rovers: BTTS – No

Waterford Utd and Sligo Rovers go head-to-head on Friday in the Irish Premier Division. Sligo had an encouraging 1-1 draw against Dundalk while Waterford suffered an agonising late defeat away to Drogheda in the opening round of fixtures. Waterford are struggling in front of goal and Sligo showed against Dundalk that their season will be based on a strong defence. Waterford have a good record against Sligo winning five and drawing one of their previous 10 meetings.

A common trend between the sides is the lack of goals scored and the last encounter finished 1-1 back in March. Both sides I’m sure would take a point before kick-off and with Sligo Rovers’ strong defence, goalmouth action will be at a premium. Check out 0-0 in the correct score market.

19:45 – Cork City v Cobh Ramblers: BTTS – No

Cork City take on local rivals Cobh Ramblers at Turners Cross in the opening fixture in the Irish First Division on Friday. In normal times the action before and after in the local pubs would possibly be more exciting than that on the field but such is the current climate it promises to be sobering night on Friday. Cork City set out in the First Division with big problems off the field on the back of relegation from the Premier Division and will be looking for a quick return to top-flight action. A local derby is a good start to get them motivated and they will be confident of an opening victory.

History shows that Cobh Ramblers struggle not only for victories against their more illustrious rivals but also struggle to score. They lost 4-1 in the League Cup in 2019 and went down 5-0 when the sides last played in the Premier Division back in 2008. Turners Cross is a short trip but not a happy hunting ground for Cobh Ramblers and I expect a winning start to nil for the home side on Friday.
