Hotshot Jackpot Villain of the Week: How West Brom’s James Morrison cost one punter £250k

West Brom drew 1-1 away to Hull City on Saturday - but if James Morrison had found the back of the net one punter would have been £250k richer

Comments

Jame Morrison made his Premier League debut on the final day of the 2003/04 season as he came on as a substitute for Stewart Downing in Middlesbrough’s 5-1 defeat to Portsmouth. Since then Morrison has scored just 28 goals in almost 20,000 hours of Premier League football – an average of almost a goal every 12 hours.

However, the Scottish international had two goals in two games for West Brom going into the weekend so therefore it’s not that much of a surprise that one punter in Essex was relying on him to bag a goal in the Baggie’s trip to struggling Hull City on Saturday afternoon in the Hotshot Jackpot.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, as Gareth McAuley’s opener for West Brom was cancelled out by Micheal Dawson and the game finished level at 1-1. Like many players this weekend the Jackpot was over for this particular punter by 4.45pm on Saturday – but that doesn’t tell the whole story.

This unfortunate punter had to watch as his seven other selections all found the onion bag – meaning that James Morrison was the only player to let this punter down for a life-changing £250k. His heart-breaking selections were as follows – fair play to him for picking ‘No Goalscorer’ in the Watford v Stoke clash!

Hull v West Brom: James Morrison
Leicester v Middlesbrough: Riyad Mahrez
Swansea v Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke
Chelsea v Tottenham: Pedro
Arsenal v Bournemouth: Theo Walcott
Watford v Stoke: No Goalscorer
Southampton v Everton: Charlie Austin
Man Utd v West Ham: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

It’s not all bad – this punter scooped £2,500 for his efforts as a consolation prize. Overall, only 1,266 people picked ‘No Goalscorer’ in the Watford v Stoke clash, while just 327 people got through Hull v West Brom thanks to McAuley (307 picks) and Dawson (20 picks).

Diego Costa and Salomon Rondon are on the naughty list this week for letting down the most punters by not finding the net, while Christian Benteke was one of the most popular picks who duly obliged in Crystal Palace’s thriller with Swansea.
