Liverpool legend and all-round good egg Phil Thompson has dissected Wednesday’s Premier League action with the good folk at PPTV. Paddy’s football ambassador has dished out his tips for Liverpool v Brighton and Aston Villa v West Ham for your consideration.

Liverpool v Brighton

Brighton are a good team, they’re a good footballing team. They’re sitting there just outside the relegation zone and have picked up a few points away from home. I think they’ll sit back but they’re very adept at passing it out from the back. I think you’ll see a lot of high press from Liverpool.

Graham Potter does tend to mix up his tactical approach but I think he’ll go five at the back on Wednesday and hope that their full backs negate Liverpool’s threat from the wing backs.

It will be down to Liverpool to force the issue and try and get the win but Liverpool are unbeaten in 12 games against Brighton and I don’t think that’s likely to change. I think Liverpool will be buoyed by the two victories that they’ve had recently.

Mo Salah’s goals have been outstanding in their own different ways. Sometimes he was a bit laboured during his barren run but he just whipped it in the far side and his touch for the second was exquisite.

THOMMO’S TIPS: Brighton will be looking for a fourth clean sheet in a row so they seem to have got something sorted at the back but I can’t do anything other than go for a good Liverpool win. Mo Salah’s back and I think he’ll Score Anytime.

Ollie Watkins

Aston Villa v West Ham

They’re a good watch, aren’t they Aston Villa? Southampton were left a bit upset with some of the decisions in their loss to Villa at the weekend. You’ve got Ollie Watkins, Jack Grealish and they’re all working in tandem. Ross Barkley is pulling the strings again.

But this is going to be some game. West Ham are on a great run. I don’t know what happened to them against Liverpool. I was really disappointed in them and I was disappointed in David Moyes with the way he set them up.

It was sit back, soak it all up and they never had a chance. I thought Liverpool were excellent by the way. But it’s one of those games where I think West Ham could be set for a dip now. You know what? The more I watch Watkins play the more I’m thinking he’s getting chances galore.

THOMMO’S TIPS: This is a good one for Aston Villa to Win to Nil. I’m going for a 2-0 win to Villa and Ollie Watkins will Score Anytime.
