Paddy ambassador Phil Thompson knows a thing or two about the stresses and strains of the management game. The Liverpool legend assisted the late, great Gerard Houllier at Anfield between 2001 and 2002.
Safely ensconced into the pundit’s chair now, our man has been running the rule over the Premier League 2022/23 sack race. With Watford out of the running it’s a bit more up for grabs this time around with plenty of candidates.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Ex-Reds boss Brendan Rodgers needs a good start at Leicester while Frank Lampard needs to work some magic at Everton to turn that club around. There’s the three promoted sides to consider as well as the relatively long-serving Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton.
Plenty of contenders then, but who does Thommo think is going to be first to get the axe? Here’s his verdict on the Premier League Sack Race.
I think Scott Parker’s going to be high on the list, Bournemouth have not recruited very well. Frank Lampard, dare I say, will be nervous if Everton don’t get off to a decent start.
But, for me, the one is, and the fans were a bit tetchy towards the end of last season, is Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton. I really thought the fans were starting to turn last year. He’s done a fantastic job down there but it has started to wander.
I would think, Ralph Hasenhuttl, besides the three promoted clubs, Fulham Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, he would be the most nervous.
