While the cream of the Championship crop battle it out for the Premier League riches, there’ll be an equally frantic scrap at the other end of the table to avoid dropping into the third tier of English football.

Peterborough, Derby County and Barnsley were the unlucky trio to sink into League One last season and their places in the second division have been taken by Wigan, Rotherham and Sunderland.

All three promoted clubs will be eager to swerve an instant return and some of last year’s also rans will be heading into the new campaign nervously looking over their shoulders.

We’ve taken a look at Paddy Power’s To Be Relegated 2022/23 betting market to pick out the league’s likely strugglers. You can see the latest prices on our snazzy widgets below.

For the seventh consecutive season Rotherham line up in a different league having bounced between the Championship and League One in recent years. It’s therefore hardly surprising that Paddy’s traders have priced the Millers as the favourites to fall through the trap door.

Birmingham limped to 20th in last season’s table and a tumultuous summer off the pitch sees Blues among the favourites to drop into League One. Lee Bowyer has been replaced in the dugout by John Eustace as manager and a takeover is on the cards so the club haven’t been too active in the transfer market.

Reading were hit with a six-point deduction last term and a leaky defence proved problematic as they just about avoided relegation in 21st. Paul Ince has been appointed permanent manager after maintaining the Royals’ Championship status during an interim spell in charge but the departure of influential midfielder John Swift is a big blow.

League One champions Wigan comfortably survived the drop the last time they won promotion from the third tier so Latics fans will be hoping history repeats. There’s been limited transfer activity at the DW Stadium so a lot depends on how Leam Richardson’s settled squad cope with the step up in quality.

Blackpool were one of last season’s surprise packages as the Tangerines were comfortable all campaign on their way to a 16th-place finish following promotion from League One. A major difference to the previous term sees Michael Appleton take the managerial reins following Neil Critchley’s switch to Aston Villa to serve as Steven Gerrard’s assistant.

Bristol City have had a couple of poor years in the bottom half of the table so expectations aren’t exactly high at Ashton Gate. Nigel Pearson remains in the dugout and a fair bit of transfer activity has taken place but the Robins’ recent campaigns suggests they’ll be fighting to avoid being sucked into the relegation battle.
