Football tips: Sadio the Mane man in our 12/1 Same Game Multi for Ajax v Liverpool

Who needs world-class defenders when you've got Sadio Mane?

How will Liverpool cope without Virgil van Dijk as they embark on another European campaign away at the always-entertaining Ajax on Wednesday night?

We’ve got a tasty 12/1 Same Game Multi bet lined up, and with Paddy’s acca insurance that means if one of our four legs doesn’t land, you get your stake back (up to £/€10) as a free bet.

Here’s what we fancy for Wednesday’s potential banana skin for the Reds…

Liverpool to win

These two sides could have contested the 2019 Champions League final were it not for Lucas Moura, but they will both be a shadow of their former selves on Wednesday night. Ajax have been plundered by some of the biggest teams in Europe in the transfer windows following that memorable Champions League run, losing Donny van de Beek, Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech to name but a few.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have lost Alisson and Virgil Van Dijk – their two defensive lynchpins – to injury. The Reds badly need a win on Wednesday night after slipping up in consecutive games in the league and dropping five points. For context, they had dropped five points when COVID-19 halted English football in March last season.

Ajax, meanwhile, have started their league campaign reasonably well, despite losing most of the core of that successful team and they will put up a stern challenge for Liverpool; ignore Ajax’s recruitment nous at your expense. However, Liverpool should have just about enough to get their European campaign off to the best possible start with a Win in Amsterdam.

Over 3.5 goals

Premier League defences appear to have forgotten how to defend in the shortened summer break this year, and Liverpool are no exception. Jurgen Klopp’s side have shipped a colossal 13 goals in their opening five games this year, with most of those goals obviously coming in the 7-2 humiliation at Villa Park.

That was also with Virgil van Dijk playing at centre-half. His loss, coupled with the fact that Adrian will be between the posts on Wednesday night, makes it very difficult to believe that Liverpool are capable of keeping a clean sheet.

Ajax still have David Neres and Dusan Tadic, so will cause trouble for Liverpool’s makeshift back four on Wednesday. At the other end, Liverpool still possess one of the best attacks in world football and are more than capable of scoring plenty themselves. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have started the season in excellent form and will be too hot for Ajax to handle in a game where we’re hoping for Over 3.5 Goals.

Sadio Mane to score anytime

As mentioned above, Mane has started the season at a frightening pace. He was devastating in a five-minute spell against Chelsea earlier in the season and marked his return from COVID-19 with a well-taken goal at Goodison Park.

He is arguably the best left-winger in football at the moment and will be confident of continuing his blistering start to the season against an Ajax side that has failed to keep a clean sheet in its last three league games. However, Mane has failed to match his incredible 10-goal European campaign from 2017/18 in each of his last two seasons and will be keen to get off the mark as soon as possible in Europe.

Dusan Tadic to score anytime

Tadic’s form since leaving Southampton has been nothing short of remarkable. The Serbian forward was always capable of moments of brilliance with the Saints, but never looked remotely close to becoming the prolific goalscorer he has become since moving to Holland.

He failed to reach the heights he scaled in 2018/19 last season, but still remained a constant threat in front of goal and will be a thorn in the side of a nervy Liverpool backline playing without its talisman. Tadic has already bagged three league goals this season and could easily register a first Champions League goal of the campaign against Liverpool.
