Football tips: Our sweet 16/1 treble for Saturday’s Scottish games

We do love a bit of action north of the border.

Hamilton v Dundee United: Dundee United to win

Dundee have enjoyed a solid start to their first season back in the Scottish Premiership and have the chance to put more distance between themselves and the relegation places with a win over Hamilton on Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton, on the other hand, have endured a very underwhelming start to the season and look in serious peril of falling through the trapdoor into the Scottish Championship.

They have picked up just six points all season, losing at Kilmarnock last time out despite their opponents playing with 10 men for more than an hour, and failing to pick up so much as a point at home in their three home fixtures this season.

Dundee United, meanwhile, have bounced back from two successive 4-0 defeats to beat St Mirren at home last time out and have an excellent opportunity to put those heavy defeats even further behind them against Hamilton.

Livingston v St Johnstone: Livingston to win

Livingston may have picked up just three points from their last 12, but they have been slightly unlucky not to come away with more.

They find themselves bottom of the table on account of that poor form, but pushed Celtic right to the brink at Celtic Park last time out and also held Rangers to a scoreless draw earlier in the season.

They may be bottom of the table, but they could jump ahead of their relegation rivals if things go their way.

On Saturday, they come up against a St Johnstone side that has lost two games on the bounce and four of their last five. Each of their last five games has ended 1-0, including a solitary victory over St Mirren, and they have scored the fewest goals in the division, so don’t expect an instant classic.

However, this is a great chance for Livingston to get off the bottom of the table and leapfrog their opponents in the process.

St Mirren v Kilmarnock: Draw

Kilmarnock’s results have improved dramatically since the beginning of the season, but they have still managed to pick up just one point on their travels in four games.

St Mirren, on the other hand, have deteriorated rapidly since they picked up six points in their opening three games – managing to pick up just one draw in their five games since that away win at Hamilton in mid-August.

Their home results have remained relatively solid, apart from a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Hibs, and they even threatened to take points off perennial champions Celtic last time out.

They now have an excellent chance to arrest their worrying slide, given Kilmarnock’s poor away record.

However, their own poor form suggests that this is also a chance for Kilmarnock to improve their paltry return away from home, even if it’s just by a point.
