Horse Racing Tips: A 5/1 fancy leads the Sunday charge at Wetherby

14:00 – Danielle

Switched to turf, well-bred DANIELLE should take another step forward. Lingua Franca is the chief threat on form, while Cabrera and Little Heron are open to improvement. Best of the debutantes may well be Artificer who, like the selection, holds an Oaks entry.

14:30 – Shaws Phoenix (NAP)

Having gone very close at Yarmouth on her debut for Alice Haynes, SHAWS PHOENIX (nap) has particularly good claims. Good Morning Alex, who has built up a solid record over this trip, is the second choice ahead of Viridian who should step up on his reappearance effort. Walter Mitty and Kode Secret look best of the handicap newcomers

 

15:00 – Gemstar

The main contenders on 2024 form are switching to turf for the first time. GEMSTAR and Extrication are bred to be much better suited by this sphere than Gunlock, who has the added burden of a 7lb penalty.

15:30 – Harswell Duke

The vote goes to HARSWELL DUKE, who has shown clear signs of a revival the last twice and remains very well handicapped on his peak form. Ey Up Its The Boss, who ties in closely with the selection on a line through Do I Dream, is the second choice ahead of Astral Spirit, Dream Pirate and Star Shield.

16:05 – Illusionist

A recent 4lb rise does not help ILLUSIONIST but he pulled nicely clear of the third when going close on both recent outings and remains very well handicapped on some of last year’s form. He might get his head in front this time. Manila Scouse ended last season with a string of good efforts in competitive races and will be dangerous if fully tuned up. Low-mileage filly Gemini Star has a recent run under her belt and is open to improvement this year.

16:40 – Ballyare

Dandy Spirit suddenly returned to form to win this race in refitted blinkers a year ago and history might repeat itself. However, the suggestion is another well-handicapped C&D winner, BALLYARE, who has not been firing on all cylinders for a while now but took a step back in the right direction when returned to the turf last month. Special Mayson and Phoenix Star are others with possibilities.

17:15 – Sun Dancer Girl

My Noble Lord is respected on the back of his reappearance win, although the rematch with Flowering could be tight on the revised terms and over this longer distance. SUN DANCER GIRL is an interesting alternative and The Crafty Mole is another to consider.
