With the series locked at 1-1 we’re set for a thrilling finale to the 2021 Lions Tour of South Africa in Cape Town, and we’ve dialled up our top rugby trader to tackle the best bets.
Saturday 5pm: South Africa v British & Irish Lions Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action
Following on from their victory last week, I think the Boks will once again have too much for the Lions this weekend. They were on top for large parts of that game, and despite the absence of a couple of key men in Faf de Klerk and Pieter-Steph Du Toit, they look stronger across the board.
Their win last week was built on set-piece dominance, and with both the scrum and line-out both performing well last week, this area will once again be key in determining who comes out on top. If South Africa can match the physicality they showed last week, and get ball to their star-studded backline, they should have too much for the Lions once again.
It should be another tight game. South Africa ran away with it a bit last week but it was tight for the majority of the game. If this series has told us anything so far it’s that both teams are matched up well. If South Africa win, it’ll be a tight victory.
This one will be intriguing no matter the outcome, however, I don’t anticipate a try-fest in Cape Town on Saturday evening. Rather, it will more likely be the case that both sides look to keep the scoreboard ticking over through the boot of their respective kickers in a low-scoring encounter.
Siya Kolisi put in an inspired display last week as he led South Africa to victory and will once again lead from the front on Saturday evening. With the breakdown expected to be key in determining who comes out on top this weekend, South Africa’s captain will have a big part to play. He looks a nice price to pick up individual accolades to add to a South Africa series victory.
Lukhanyo Am touched down for South Africa’s second try last week, to add to the one he got in the ‘A’ warm-up match a couple of weeks ago and he looks in fine form heading into this weekend’s decider. His attacking support lines are key to South Africa’s threat going forward and he was also the first receiver on hand if required for Makazole Mapimpi’s opening try. He will no doubt be heavily involved again this weekend and could be just the man to unlock this Lions defence once more.
