A 1m 4f contest to start and AL AASY should come on a bundle for his seasonal debut at Newbury when second to Phanton Flight who re-opposes. It’s a small but open Group 3 race and Al Aasy can get his revenge.
14:25 – Mr Freedom (each-way)
A big field for this 1m 6f handicap and plenty have chances. MR FREEDOM could represent a bit of value (each-way) having won at Sandown over this trip last time. He won at this track last month over 1m 4f and despite getting a 5lb penalty for his Sandown victory, could still have some wriggle room in his handicap mark of 85.
15:00 – Free Wind
The Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes has attracted a couple of capable Irish raiders but FREE WIND can repel them. She was second to Bluestocking last time when starting favourite at York on her seasonal bow. Free Wind ran in this contest last year but finished fourth on heavy ground. The better the ground the better her chance.
15:35 – Billyjoh (each-way)
The Stewards Cup over 6f is one of the highlights of the meeting and while Dark Trooper has his chance, he doesn’t represent great value. BILLYJOH has got the cheekpieces on for the first time and that may help him improve. On some of his best form he should be hitting the places and maybe the headgear will help bring out that little bit more as he also drops down in trip. He finished second here on Wednesday so handles the track.
16:10 – Artic Thunder
ARTIC THUNDER has some serious back-form against some sharp operators and his mark of 91 gives him a chance. He can step forward on his Royal Ascot run.
16:45 – Sir Peter Fossick
Antelope is well bred and any market moves should be noted for the Richard Hannon runner. Angelo Buonarreti cost a million pounds at the Breeze Up Sales and could be very smart and should come forward from his Royal Ascot run. Of those with racecourse experience, SIR PETER FOSSICKS’s runner-up effort over this 7f trip at Epsom could be good enough to win this.
17:20 – Great Chieftain (each-way)
We end the day – and the meeting – with a 1m 1f handicap where a previous winner this week GREAT CHIEFTAIN reappears. He got a 6lb penalty for Thursday’s victory over a mile but still gets the three-year-old allowances here and can be competitive.
