13:50 Sandown – Belliano
Lots of action on ITV Racing but we kick off with the EBF Final and we always get a good horse winning this. Trainer Ben Pauling got a 1-2 in this last year and he’s got one of the favourite in here in Meetmebythesea.
I was at Doncaster when this horse won, he looked like he was just getting qualified for this. He made hard work of it but he is a smart horse, there’s no doubt about that. Himself and The Kemble Brewery are closely matched on Ludlow running but Belliano is far superior. Paul Nicholls has saved Belliano’s handicap mark for this race and he’s the one that I really like.
14:05 Hereford – Williethebuilder
It’s interesting that this Hereford race is where we have a Skelton team horse in Williethebuilder. It you look back at his point-to-point he finished third that day and I was actually there. He jumped really well and it’s interesting that they send him over fences now to run in a race like this. He’s not badly handicapped off a mark of 128. The drying ground won’t be a problem for him so he’s definitely a player at a good price.
14:25 Sandown – Spirits Bay
They’re going to go a gallop in this Imperial Cup and that will really suit Spirits Bay for the Twiston-Davies team. He’s got some really good form to his name and was only beaten five lengths at Cheltenham by Constitution Hill and this horse is a very strong traveller, if anything too strong! But with so much pace in this race it will really help him and I can see him coming home hard.
14:45 Wolverhampton – Kingdom Come
We’ve two races from Wolverhampton on Saturday and the first is over 1m. It’s a horrible start, the 1m at Wolverhampton, and the draw can be all important. Some of the really-fancied ones are very-badly drawn so that’s a big disadvantage. You might need a bit of luck but the top-rated horse in here, Kingdom Come, has won over course and distance at Wolverhampton and it was a hell of a race at Newcastle last year when he just got beat. He runs off the same mark here and that could be good enough, especially with a good draw in stall six.
15:00 Sandown – Supreme Malinas
This is a good little race and the worst of the ground will be up the straight. Supreme Malinas will love that. She won at Huntingdon on soft ground against her own sex then went to Windsor in an open bumper and ran very well. I just feel that Supreme Malinas is definitely a player. With Harry Skelton eyeing the David Power Jockey’s Cup he’ll be keen to bag another winner as well!
15:20 Wolverhampton – Fair Angellica
Fair Angellica runs for Richard Hughes and his horses have been going really well recently. This filly ran a hell of a race first time out last season when just getting beaten on very soft ground at Goodwood so she’ll be pretty straight for this. She might just have a fitness edge over Jabaara who looked like needed a run to be at her best last year.
15:35 Sandown – Dreaming Blue
This handicap chase is a very open contest. Dreaming Blue deserves to be favourite and will take a little bit of beating. A mark of 127 is fair and he won’t mind the ground either way. He likes to get on with it so I think Dreaming Blue is the one.
