A tricky opener. Doubts persist for Molly Mischief but the recent course winner Opticality has plenty in her favour as she bids to confirm superiority over Defence Treaty. However, there are alternatives, with Broctune Azure not a forlorn hope, and the returning PHILOS also considered a threat with the talented 3lb claimer Morgan Cole (rode last year’s winner) taking over in the saddle.
16:45 Off The Bench
The Brocklesby form is soon tested through the eighth Clay Shoveler and this gelding could see today’s race out better on a less taxing surface than Saturday. The market will be interesting, especially with stables responsible for three of the first five home at Doncaster having runners, but Amo Racing’s 2yos usually hit the ground running and OFF THE BENCH gets a tentative vote. Second choice is Sex On Fire, whose dam was sharp and smart.
17:15 So Obsessed
A race which lacks strength in depth, so the recent Chelmsford scorer SO OBSESSED shouldn’t be unduly troubled by a 5lb rise, and can confirm placings with the runner-up Ludberg. A positive market move for either Cloud King (handicap debut), or Justahunch (stable switch) would be interesting.
17:45 Cerulean Summer
Zariela has good form claims on her 2yo efforts but is unraced on Tapeta and perhaps CERULEAN SUMMER can prove another success story for her up-and-coming yard now returned to 7f. God Bless America and Kindest Nation should come on for their recent debuts while Kandy King, though hardly a sharp type, has potential. The newcomers are worth a market check.
18:15 Asinara
Mickley ran well at Redcar when last seen and should have more to come this year but ASINARA may have his measure this time. Charlie Hills’s filly was green when asked to quicken on her Kempton debut but she picked up strongly when the penny began to drop and the subsequent efforts of the third-placed horse give that form some substance.
18:45 Mobashr
Dawn Of Liberation and Swiss Ace form a strong team for Ruth Carr, while Waiting All Night returns with his yard in fine form and Star Zinc and Chola Empire have claims on this winter’s best. MOBASHR isn’t one for maximum confidence given he needs luck in running but he’s more than capable at this level and could be worth chancing on his return.
19:15 Bint Havana Gold (NAP)
Notion In Motion appeals as a likely improver now handicapping at a realistic level, while Wrestling Revenue, The Real Mckay, Chiedozie and Better also have more to come. BINT HAVANA GOLD (NAP) has won both her starts in AW handicaps at this trip and she can continue her yard’s hot streak.
19:45 Storm Asset
Inexplicable (second choice) was always holding Fanzone when those two filled the first two places in a similar contest at Newcastle last week, but Antony Brittain’s runner might have to play second fiddle to STORM ASSET, who went close at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago and now has Rossa Ryan aboard.
20:15 Copper Mountain
Van Zant (second choice) enters the reckoning having been run down late in a stronger Class 6 event over C&D last week, while there are also positives for Hawajes (under Rossa Ryan) and Kodebreaker (a dual course winner). Nevertheless, the safest option is probably COPPER MOUNTAIN who is reasonably proficient at getting the job done when competing at this lowly level.
