13:20 Doncaster – Astral Beau
I am keen on ASTRAL BEAU. You don’t have to look far for reasons why, she won the race last year by four lengths, on heavy ground, and she is a tough, genuine mare who goes well fresh. She will go well here.
13:30 Bangor – Jungle Jack
JUNGLE JACK is the interesting one. If you back Donald McCain’s horses on their second start after wind surgery you would be well up on your stake and this is his second start. That angle gives him an opportunity to go very close.
13:50 Doncaster – Mystical Elegance
I wouldn’t look too far beyond MYSTICAL ELEGANCE for this one. It is tricky, but he comes from a promising stable, whose horses know their jobs. He will be pretty sharp.
14:10 Newbury – Kartoon And Co
KARTOON AND CO strikes me as definitely overpriced. He ran well at Stratford the first time out, then went well at Market Rasen. He jumped cleanly at Sandown, which is rare and puts him in good company. He is good value for this one.
14:25 Doncaster – Thunder Roar
THUNDER ROAR has improved a lot this season, and he will continue to improve so he is top of my list for this. He’s drawn on the low stalls next to some quick horses and he could come out ahead.
14:40 Newbury – Gustavian
GUSTAVIAN stands out in this one, he deals with tricky conditions better than some of the other favourites in this race and the heavy ground could favour him slightly. In the nicest possible way, he is the horse I hate least in this race. If I had to stick my neck out he would be my pick.
15:00 Doncaster – Baradar
The one that does stand out here is BARADAR, who won over 6 furlongs here in September. He was third in the Guineas last year too. He is my selection for this race.
15:15 Newbury – Party Vibes / Marmalade Time (each way)
PARTY VIBES is the one I like best, she is a very likeable mare. She is progressive and will improve with the step up in trip and her pedigree suggests that she is the type to keep doing well. I would rate her chances as an each way pick.
The other horse I fancy, at a slightly bigger price, is MARMALADE TIME she was a very gamely winner at Doncaster last time out.
15:35 Doncaster – Spirit Genie
SPIRIT GENIE is the type to win handicap races this season. He ran a great race at Leicester in October when winning by eight lengths and was an impressive second at Newmarket in November. He is a rank outsider but is worth a shout at a very tasty price.
