The keen-going ELTERWATER hasn’t seen it out from the front in two runs back from a lengthy layoff and this mark could well be within range now dropped in trip round a course that should suit her style. Dual C&D winner Calcutta Dream is another to consider, along with Twilight Guest under a jockey who has plenty of experience for 7lb in this company.

18:00 Sea Ice

Hissyaan and the expensive Venetian Style have both been gelded since running below market expectations on debut, and both sport first-time headgear, while Bluestone didn’t look straightforward last time. Endosser should give his running again but is looking exposed now and the concession of the 5lb sex allowance to SEA ICE may prove beyond him.

18:30 So Obsessed

It’s hard to make much of a case for anything bar Ten O’Clock, who sets the standard on her two recent placed efforts at Lingfield, and the keen-going SO OBSESSED, who ran better than her final position last time and should be suited by the drop from 6f.

19:00 The Defiant

A C&D winner off 7lb higher last summer, THE DEFIANT traditionally does well around this time of year and has shown enough in three runs back from a break to suggest he’s ready to take advantage of a handy mark. Beneficiary has done nothing wrong back in the blinkers this year and is a threat, as is Alafdhal (also declared at Newcastle on Friday), although he wouldn’t want a tactical affair over this trip round here.

19:30 Awesome Spirit (NAP)

Four maidens take on four that struggle to win these days in a handicap in which Michael Appleby holds a strong hand courtesy of Come On Girl and AWESOME SPIRIT (NAP), the latter getting the nod back down to sprinting following wind surgery. Elsewhere, support for Mine That Ship for a new yard back from seven months off would draw the eye.

20:00 Cues Beau

More questions than answers in a handicap containing its fair share of front-runners/prominent-racers. Got No Dollars is a player but he’s only won one of his last 24 starts and been beaten at 6-1 or shorter 14 times during that time. Support for Strategia would make him interesting but otherwise the vote goes to CUES BEAU, who’s lightly raced and up to winning off this mark if seeing out the easy 1m.

20:30 Island Native

Perhaps Newcastle didn’t suit Once Adaay, who’d previously done well in the visor and is 2-2 round here, last time and better can be expected. Otherwise, the Lingfield handicap in which ISLAND NATIVE beat Conquest Of Power two weeks ago looks the key formline, with the selection fancied to confirm dominance on 6lb worse terms.
