In the seventh of this year’s Paddy Power Media’s ‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ podcast ‘Cheltenham Countdown’, host Tom Nugent together with former jockey turned pundit Ruby Walsh and well-known journalist and broadcaster Rory Delargy, look at the Kim Muir on day three of the 2024 Cheltenham Festival.

It’s a handicap with a ceiling of 145 and we’ve seen years where if you’re rated 137 you might not get in, but last year there was a fair range. Angels Dawn was rated 131 and she got in with 11 stone. She was really well handicapped last year.

Good Time Jonny’s favourite for this, despite his form over fences suggesting he’s got plenty to do, because he’s been quietly campaign and landed a bit of a touch in the Pertemps last year. He’s the obvious plot.

Gordon Elliott is the key to this race. You’re looking for horses that stay beyond three miles and are rated in the 135 to 145 bracket. When you consider how many horses in his yard have that kind of profile, he can almost see what’s blooming at the right time and stick them in the race. Anything he has will be of some sort of interest because he’s got such strength to choose from and he’s got the riders as well.

I wouldn’t be punting at the prices, at the moment. If you’re desperate for something that’s going to run well, Angels Dawn should get in again. She’s been shaping up well but I suspect she’ll be 3lbs or 4lbs too high this year, whereas she was thrown in at the weights last year.
