Winning Irish pointer who has slugged it out really well to win both handicaps this season, over hurdles at Uttoxeter (2m4f) and on chase debut at Ffos Las (about 2m5f; both on heavy) where he caught the idling leader close home; up 4lb but this extra stamina test can suit; JAMES JET has a solid chance.

15:00 Catterick – Empty Nest (The Punt)

Improvement when fourth on chase/handicap debut over C&D (good to soft) in November and took another step forward when staying on for close third over C&D (good to soft) last time; every chance EMPTY NEST will continue to progress and he could play a leading role in a first-time tongue-tie.

15:50 Fairyhouse – Junot (The Irish Sun)

0-10 but in the mix in handicap hurdles so far this winter; only beaten 3l at Naas last time; has to prove himself on ground this testing but JUNOT may have a race in him from this sort of mark.

20:30 Kempton – Barrel Aged (Spotlight)

Both Phoenix Aquilus and San Pedro can’t be discounted on the back of good hurdling runs and handicap debutant The Bunt is another to consider. But De Vega’s Warrior and BARREL AGED fought out a good finish at Southwell last time and look set to take centre stage again, with Marco Botti’s lightly raced 4yo confidently expected to come out on top once more.
