12:40 Asgard’s Captain

The form of ASGARD’S CAPTAIN’s win on his first start for Dylan Cunha at Wolverhampton twelve days ago has already been franked as both the placed horses have won since and, with the possibility of a little more to come now his stamina is drawn out further, he could well be the answer to this amateurs contest. Mr Trick, who’s returning to this shorter trip of a mile and a quarter, and last month’s Newcastle winner Blue Yonder head the dangers, with Jennie Candlish’s ex-German recruit Rosenpur another to monitor closely on his handicap debut.

13:10 Night On Earth

NIGHT ON EARTH’s losing run is mounting up but he went agonisingly close to getting his head in front again when going down by a nose to Level Up over this course and distance nine days ago. A repeat of that effort should see him firmly in the mix once more under Rossa Ryan. Dicko The Legend has done well returned to sprinting this winter, including winning twice at Chelmsford, and he’s next best, ahead of Star of Lady M who wasn’t seen to best effect here last time after being left poorly placed when short of room early on.

13:45 Island Native

Making only his fourth start since joining Mick Appleby, ISLAND NATIVE got off the mark with plenty in hand at Chelmsford last week when making all to beat Stella Hogan by more than four lengths and a 5 lb penalty might not be enough to prevent him from scoring again. Edmund Ironside has remained in good form since his course-and-distance win in November and could be the main danger after finishing a close fourth to Sir Titan in a blanket finish here last time when Island Native wasn’t far behind. Rabinal was only beaten a neck in second in the same race despite pulling hard and is also shortlisted.

14:15 Galloping On

Just the five runners in this mile handicap for three-year-olds. GALLOPING ON showed further improvement when beaten three quarters of a length by Super Saiyan, the pair finishing clear of the rest, in a maiden at Wolverhampton last time and, with the prospect of more to come on his handicap debut over this extra furlong, he looks to hold solid claims off top weight. Loaded Gun rates the chief threat after being touched off by a short head over seven furlongs here recently, ahead of Moreginplease who was placed in nurseries on her last three starts last year.

    14:50 Sassy Redhead

    SASSY REDHEAD gained a deserved success over course and distance last month, her second such victory in 2023, when beating Come On Girl a head and there’s no reason why she shouldn’t continue her good run of form. Sisters In The Sky hasn’t really had the chance to put his best foot forward since finishing second at Wolverhampton in December, having no room late on there last time, and remains of interest, whilst Lion Ring also merits consideration after ending last year in good form.

    15:25 Different Breed

    The front-running DIFFERENT BREED was only just denied by promising newcomer Dyrholaey in a maiden at Chelmsford two weeks ago and this novice looks a good opportunity for him to break his duck after a run of five placed efforts for Simon Hodgson. Sovereign Knight has made the frame in both his starts in maidens and, tongue tied for the first time, can battle it out for minor honours again along with the sole filly in the line-up Twirler who has also made the frame in her two starts and steps up a furlong trip this time.

    16:00 Destinado

    DESTINADO has been resurgent upon joining James Owen, making it two wins from three starts already this month with a dominant display at Southwell six days ago where he stormed clear to beat Velvet Vulcan by four lengths easing down. He looks the one to beat again despite conceding weight all round in this classified stakes. Tawtheef back from a break is another of interest given his good record fresh and another breathing operation since his last run, with Dillydingdillydong and Reformed Character others fancied to be thereabouts.
