13:10 Leopardstown – Dinoblue

Captain Guinness barely gets the 2m, so could be vulnerable at 2m 1f now. He was second in this to Blue Lord last year. He was impressive at Navan on season debut but the race fell apart a little with Dysart Dynamo finding nothing and Saint Roi needing the run.

Gentleman De Mee would have a chance on his best form but consistency is not his strong suit so Dinoblue looks the one to beat, especially getting the 7lb mares allowance. She was an excellent second in the Grand Annual off 140 before winning strong handicaps at Fairyhouse and Punchestown off 140 & 147 respectively last season.

She accounted for Fil D’or on her reappearance at Naas and no reason why she wouldn’t uphold that form here.

13:45 Leopardstown – Daddy Long Legs

There’s plenty of the top ones entered. Daddy Long Legs was very impressive at Thurles on debut when putting away Irish Panther. He could be anything. Down Memory Lane is a point-to-point, bumper and hurdles winner who is unbeaten and looks potentially top class. Hasn’t beaten anything of note yet though and his price is short enough all things considered.

I was on It’s For Me but he’s a non-runner so I’ll side with Daddy Long Legs for Willie Mullins to take on Gordon Elliott’s Down Memory Lane.

15:00 Leopardstown – Panda Boy, James Du Berlais (each way)

I’ve a couple fancies in the Paddy Power Chase where there should be extra places on offer. The first is Panda Boy who is rated 4lb higher than last year when he was less than a length third to Real Steel and Diol Ker and then finished fifth in the Irish Grand National National at Fairyhouse off a mark of 140.

He didn’t really stay the 3m5f trip that day but still ran well. He’s since run in two Grade 3 contests this autumn over nearly 3m and then dropped back down down to 2m which suggests connections were keen to protect what should still be a winnable handicap mark. This could be the one they’ve targeted since last season.

Another who could hit the places at least is James Du Berlais who is rated (148) for his handicap debut. While he has been pretty disappointing since his impressive chase debut win at Fairyhouse last New Year’s Day, he has been campaigned almost exclusively at Grade One 1 level.

He was a little disappointing on his reappearance in a Listed race at Thurles when a well beaten fourth of six, but the drop in grade and step back up to 3m will help him. He’s worth playing each-way if declared for powerful connections.
