13:30 Haydock – Coopers Cross

Quirky but very talented best sums Stuart Coltherd’s runner COOPERS CROSS. He never really got into it at Aintree last time but that might have done him a favour as he didn’t have too hard a race.

He handles conditions and with that run under his belt, he should play a big part.

13:50 Ascot – Cap Du Mathan

Paul Nicholls’ charge, CAP DU MATHAN, ran a very good race at Ascot behind Boothill last time, showing up for a long way on his seasonal debut. With that run under his belt, he can go close under Harry Cobden.

    14:05 Haydock – Goobinator

Donald McCain’s charge, GOOBINATOR, was a recent winner on heavy ground at Catterick on the Flat. If you add 40lb to his Flat rating of 85 that gives him a fair hurdles mark of 125 that he could potentially run too.

He is proven on heavy ground and should have a very strong chance here. Jagwar is a big threat after looking all over the winner at Aintree last time but just got run out of it close home.

    14:25 Ascot – Botox Has (each-way)

A decent-sized field and Botox Has looks like an each-way play. Gary Moore’s runner won very nicely up at Wetherby on very soft ground. The weather should be kind it looks like it will be run on decent ground.

Champ has a very good record and won this race two years ago. He has to be a player as this has been his target this season.

        15:00 Ascot – Victtorino

Venetia Williams is operating at a 33 per cent strike rate so everything she runs has to be taken seriously. VICTTORINO won with a little up his sleeve at this venue last time. He slowed into the last yet still got going again for a convincing success.

Yeah Man was closing him down when falling at the last that day and with only a 2lb differential in the weights, I am struggling to see Yeah Man finishing in front of Victtorino, especially on quicker ground. If there is an each-way play in this race, it is Flegmatik who will enjoy the conditions.

        15:35 Ascot – Nemean Lion (each-way)

The ground is drying out at the track and this son of Golden Horn will enjoy conditions. Not everything went right for NEMEAN LION behind Iberico, Lord at Cheltenham last time. Being ridden slightly handier will help and I can see him running a big race at this track.

Iberico Lord has more on his plate this time but has definitely improved for his summer off. It is a different ground though and that will make it tougher to slice through the pack. Hansard and Luccia will like this ground and have to rate as big dangers.
