Horse Racing Tips: A 6/1 play leads Matt Chapman’s Haydock & Ascot fancies on Saturday

Matt reckons veteran stayer Paisley Park (14:25) can roll back the years in the Long Walk Hurdle.

Haydock 13.30 – Famous Bridge

The blog has been going great guns the last few weeks with big priced winners so let’s hope for another fabulous day before Christmas. Have a superb festive time people. ITV Saturday gets under way here at Haydock with the Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase over an extended 3m1f. Credo will be a big player here for Sam Twiston-Davies. I really liked the look of FAMOUS BRIDGE at this track last time and while he is up to 135 now and that might be high enough I’ll give him another go for Nicky Richards and Sean Quinlan. He stays well and deep ground is no issue.

Ascot 13.50 – Triple Trade

ITV go to Ascot starting here with a handicap chase over 2m3f. Plenty of out of form horses here who are very capable if bouncing back. I don’t fancy any of them much, and end up with TRIPLE TRADE just because he is healthy and in good form. That said, he was lucky to be third at this track last time and a mark of 135 is clearly high enough right now.

Haydock 14.05 – BINGOO

This is a handicap hurdle over nearly 2m. Jagwar could be chucked in, but while he has to-weight in testing ground I’m going to go with BINGOO who was in great form for James Moffatt last season. Charlotte Jones takes off a useful 3lb and my hope will keep plodding in the conditions.

Ascot 14.25 – PAISLEY PARK

Up in class here for the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle over an extended 3m. A decent sized field here and I can’t have PAISLEY PARK out the first three so he’s a great eachway bet for Emma Lavelle and Tom Bellamy.

I suspect this is about the last chance he has of winning another Grade 1, ad there was nothing wrong with his comeback second to Dashel Drasher at Newbury. He can reverse that form here and the roof will be raised if he can score.

Ascot 15.00 – FLASH COLLONGES

Here’s a handicap chase over 3m. A really competitive race. FLASH COLLONGES is interesting on a decent surface if there has not been too much rain. The champion trainer Paul Nicholls handles this gelding who was pulled out on soft ground at Cheltenham in November but was a progressive stayer on a good surface until falling in the Scottish National.

Harry Cobden takes the ride and a mark of 134 is only 1lb higher than when scoring in a handicap hurdle at Kelso in 2021. At the age of eight he might have more to come.

Ascot 15.35 – IBERICO LORD

A handicap hurdle over nearly 2m. This is the betting race of the day but I expect a plunge on IBERICO LORD who impressed as a right tool when scoring at Cheltenham first time this season and had finished second in a really good race at Sandown last term. He’s gone up 8lb for the Cheltenham win but he will surely go well again under Nico de Boinville.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
