11:50 Beneficially Yours

Beneficially Yours was bought for £80,000 after winning his only start in an Irish point and he gets the vote to make a winning start over hurdles for Donald McCain. He will have the assistance of Brian Hughes in the saddle on his debut under Rules. Perth bumper winner Cracking Rhapsody made a winning start over hurdles at Hexham last month and should go well again, despite having to carry a penalty.

12:25 Blue Fin

Blue Fin was no match for a promising rival on his chasing debut in a two-and-a-half-mile novice handicap here last month but he shaped with encouragement and is entitled to build on that effort. Blue Fin jumped soundly in the main and also travelled well, leaving the impression that he’s started out in handicaps from a fair mark. This looks like an easier assignment.

13:00 Eloi du Puy

Eloi du Puy has proved better than ever since returning from a summer break in October, winning back-to-back handicaps at Kelso. Eloi du Puy still looked raw on his reappearance at Kelso but rallied well to prevail and he followed up that success in determined fashion last month, digging deep to beat a subsequent winner by three-quarters of a length. He’s progressing well now so a 5 lb higher mark might not be enough to stop him complete the hat-trick.

13:35 Universal Folly

Universal Folly was unable to complete the four-timer at Aintree last month but he ran well behind a talented rival in Giovinco and is taken to return to winning ways here. That runner-up effort was over an extended three miles but Universal Folly had won over two and a half miles at Hexham on his previous outing, showing his versatility. He’s a reliable type who has built up an excellent strike rate over fences.

14:10 Howlingmadmurdock

Howlingmadmurdock took well to hurdling last season, winning a Plumpton novice and a Sandown novice handicap to earn a crack at the Grade 1 Sefton at Aintree, where he ran creditably to finish fifth. Howlingmadmurdock was only mid-division on his return in a competitive handicap at Haydock last month but he’s entitled to be sharper with that outing under his belt, while this stiff track should also be in his favour. If the forecast rain eases the going that is also likely to help his chance.

14:45 Return Fire

Return Fire is a likeable, largely consistent sort and he made the most of a good opportunity on his return at Hexham in October, jumping soundly on his way to an authoritative success. Return Fire ran just as well when third from this 3 lb higher mark in a better race at Kelso last time, so he should give another good account down in grade.

15:20 Unsinkable Molly B

Unsinkable Molly B is an imposing sort and she shaped well when runner-up at Wetherby on her debut in March, losing out by only half a length against the more clued-up favourite. She is entitled to be sharper with that experience to call on and should have strengthened up in the eight months since, so she can raise her game.
