13:20 Newcastle – Rhythmic Intent

Stuart Williams’ runner, RHYTHMIC INTENT, is completely unexposed as far as the synthetic surface is concerned and was subject of a massive late plunge in the market when finishing a never-nearer sixth last time at Wolverhampton.

He now drops slightly back in distance to 1m 4f, but this is a much more galloping track, which will give him much more time to get competitive in the home straight. Connections could get their money back today.

15:09 Newcastle – Bielsa

Just the six runners declared as the 2021 Ayr Gold Cup winner BIELSA has his third attempt on the all weather. On his two tries so far he has finished second and third and was surrounded by a good bunch of sprinters over this course and distance last time.

The Kevin Ryan yard are in red-hot form and this triple digit performer has a few lbs in hand over the handicapper in this slot. He may well dominate towards the stand-side rail.

    16:45 Newcastle – High Opinion

Bryan Smart’s four-year-old, HIGH OPINION, finally returned to the winner’s enclosure of a very lenient looking rating of 54 – despite the jockey dropping his whip.

He finished strongly to challenge late on and the result was never in doubt. A mark of 60 now doesn’t look like his ceiling rating, especially back over a course and distance that clearly suits. With some guaranteed pace in this race, it has a nice look to it for his late running style to deliver.

    17:00 Wolverhampton – Copper Mountain

The Easterby’s filly finally finds things falling in her favour with an inside stall position in box 1 and the slight step up in distance to 1m 1f looks tailor-made for her, after a strong, finishing run over a mile at Newcastle last time.

COPPER MOUNTAIN was inching closer to the winner all the way through the final furlong and now with the emphasis slightly more on stamina, she can gain her third victory on a synthetic surface.

        19:00 Wolverhampton – Cloud Cover

All of CLOUD COVER’s three victories have been over this 7f long sprint distance, including at this venue, Kempton and Chelmsford. She has only been nudged up 3lb for a battling success in a real tight finish last time, showing lots of guts and determination to win.

This is another step up the ladder in grade, but Rossa Ryan has been booked and he’s in search of the double century of victories this season.

        20:30 Wolverhampton – Connected

His pedigree points to CONNECTED being a suspect stayer but connections’ decision to run him over 1m suggests that stamina is not an issue. Whenever he has been ridden aggressively forward, he hasn’t finished with any purpose so I’d expect him to be held up and played late now that’s he’s going back up in distance since he was first given a handicap mark.
